Light weight rocker reinforcement

A rocker assembly for a vehicle comprising a rocker panel and a side sill that enclose an injection molded reinforcement. The reinforcement includes a plurality of intersecting walls that may be provided in horizontal and vertical planes. An intermediate wall formed by frames within four sided cells that define windows. The rocker assembly may include two different types of reinforcements, one with intersecting walls, or fins, extending laterally and one formed by a plurality of longitudinally extending tubular members.

A tailgate for a motor vehicle includes a metallic main body and at least one fiber-reinforced tape disposed on and/or in the metallic main body. The at least one fiber-reinforced tape has reinforcement fibers embedded in a matrix material composed at least in part of a metallic material. The tailgate can include at least one additional component that is at least in part embedded in the main body. The at least one additional component can have at least one connection portion and a loop of the fiber-reinforced tape can be guided around the at least one connection portion.

A method for producing a metal-plastic-hybrid component comprises: providing a metal shaped piece, and providing a stiff plastics shaped piece made of a rigid thermoplastic. The geometry of the shape of the plastics shaped piece is at least partially adapted to that of the metal shaped piece. The method further comprises mechanically connecting the plastics shaped piece to the metal shaped piece in a manner such that the plastics shaped piece and the metal shaped piece are held against one another by intrinsic stress, and such that there is a substantial area of surface-contact between the plastics shaped piece and the metal shaped piece at at least one interface. The method further comprises inductively welding the plastics shaped piece to the metal shaped piece at the at least one interface.

A reinforcement member is positioned in the cavity wherein a gap is provided between the reinforcement member and the inner surface of the structural member. The reinforcement member includes an outer section, an inner section and a tension web interposed between and contacting the outer section and inner section. The outer section faces the outer panel member and the inner section faces the inner panel member. The tension web is secured to the outer panel member and inner panel member. An adhesive secured to the reinforcement member is activatable to expand toward the inner surface of the structural member to define a joint between the reinforcement member and the structural member and to at least partially fill the gap.

The underframe has two elongate monocoques arranged parallel and spaced apart from each other and at least 50% closed on at least four sides, wherein the monocoques each have a single-part, trough-like element having at least one lower base and two side walls extending upwards from the base. At least one cover element closes the trough-like elements over at least 50% of the longitudinal extent of the particular trough-like element. The at least one cover element of each of the two monocoques in each case includes at least one cross-strut cover element, and the cross-strut cover elements of the two monocoques are designed as a common, single-part cross-strut cover element spanning an intermediate space located between the trough-like elements of the monocoques. The cover elements are fixedly connected to the side walls of the monocoques.
