Towing attachment
A towing attachment is designed to facilitate the towing of bobtail trucks and similar vehicles. The towing attachment includes a tube, a hitch attachment body, a first mounting bracket, a second mounting bracket, a first locking mechanism, and a second locking mechanism. The tube is preferably a rectangular, tubular, structure that receives the first mounting bracket and the second mounting bracket. The hitch attachment body is an assembly that allows attachment onto the hitch feature of a bobtail truck or other similar vehicle. The first mounting bracket and the second mounting bracket allow engagement to a wheel lift of a towing vehicle. The first locking mechanism maintains the first mounting bracket in place along the tube. The second locking mechanism maintains the second mounting bracket in place along the tube.
Vehicle-trailer backing system with jacknife protection
A method of maneuvering a vehicle-trailer assembly in reverse travel with a backing system includes: initiating a backing mode for the backing system; determining a current relative position representing a relative angle between the vehicle and the trailer; retrieving an operator proficiency setting selected by an operator; determining a maximum allowable relevant position for the current trailer based on the selected operator proficiency setting and the current trailer calibration data; receiving a position adjustment request via an input device; determining a new relative position request based upon the position adjustment request and the selected operator proficiency setting; comparing the new relative position request to the maximum allowed relative position setting to determine if the new relative position is below the maximum allowed relative position setting; setting a new relative position to the new relative position request when the new relative position request is within the maximum allowed relative position setting.
Method and apparatus for an active convertor dolly
The disclosure is directed at a method and apparatus for an active convertor dolly for use in a tractor-trailer configuration. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a system to connect a tractor to a trailer. The apparatus further includes a charge generating system for translating the mechanical motions or actions of the dolly into electricity or electrical energy so that this energy can be used to charge a battery or to power other functionality for either the dolly or the tractor-trailer. The active dolly may also operate to assist in shunting the tractor-trailer.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATED OPERATION AND HANDLING OF AUTONOMOUS TRUCKS AND TRAILERS HAULED THEREBY
A system and method for operation of an autonomous vehicle (AV) yard truck is provided. A processor facilitates autonomous movement of the AV yard truck, and connection to and disconnection from trailers. A plurality of sensors are interconnected with the processor that sense terrain/objects and assist in automatically connecting/disconnecting trailers. A server, interconnected, wirelessly with the processor, that tracks movement of the truck around and determines locations for trailer connection and disconnection. A door station unlatches/opens rear doors of the trailer when adjacent thereto, securing them in an opened position via clamps, etc. The system computes a height of the trailer, and/or if landing gear of the trailer is on the ground and interoperates with the fifth wheel to change height, and whether docking is safe, allowing a user to take manual control, and optimum charge time(s). Reversing sensors/safety, automated chocking, and intermodal container organization are also provided.
Lifting System for a Semitrailer of an Articulated Lorry, Logistics Depot for a Lorry Fleet, as Well as a Logistics System
A lifting system for a semitrailer of an articulated lorry includes a lifting device where the semitrailer is adjustable by the lifting device in relation to a surface of a base element on which the semitrailer is positioned between a coupling position, in which a coupling element of the semitrailer is arranged at a coupling height above the surface of the base element, and a decoupling position, in which the coupling element is arranged at a decoupling height above the surface of the base element. The lifting device is associated with a surface segment of the base element where the surface segment is height-adjustable by the lifting device such that the semitrailer is adjustable between the coupling position and the decoupling position by an adjustment of the surface segment.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ADJUSTING TRAILER KING PIN LOCATION
An adjustable trailer hitch and king pin assembly that may be moved longitudinally to adjust the position and weight distribution of a trailer relative to a truck. The disclosed assembly may allow a trailer to be utilized with various different sized and configured trucks while maximizing the cargo carrying capability and efficiency thereof. In one example, an adjustable trailer hitch is provided having a slidable king pin assembly that may be adjusted forwards or backwards to move the king pin to the desired location relative to the truck and trailer. In another example, a removable king pin may be provided that may be removed and moved to a different location according to the weight and desired weight distribution of a truck and trailer combination.
Anti-jackknifing apparatus
Multiple exemplary systems for preventing jackknifing are disclosed. The systems comprise an electric motor for extending a shaft into a fifth wheel coupling when a tractor trailer is traveling at above a predetermined speed in a forward direction, physically preventing the tractor trailer from jackknifing. In order to avoid dependence on integration with a tractor, sensors on a trailer are used to determine speed without communication with the tractor or any instruments therein, via reception of one or more waves. When the trailer is determined to be traveling at below the predetermined speed in a forward direction, or at any speed in a backward direction, the shaft is retracted to allow the trailer to freely rotate with respect, to the tractor.
SELF-POWERED SINGLE AXLE DOLLY VEHICLE UNIT WITH AUTO-COUPLING ABILITY
A single axle dolly vehicle unit for a heavy duty vehicle combination, the dolly vehicle unit comprising an electrical energy source arranged to power at least one electric machine configured to drive left and right wheels of the single axle, the dolly vehicle unit further comprising a drawbar and a fifth wheel connection for mating with first and second trailer units, respectively, wherein the fifth wheel connection is arranged to be adjusted in height over ground by a variable height suspension system, the dolly vehicle unit further comprising a control unit arranged to control the variable height suspension system.
