Iron type golf club head and set

An iron-type golf club head having a sole channel extending from an exterior of a sole portion toward a face. The sole channel has an axis that intersects the face at an axis-to-face intersection point for at least one position along a channel length, and preferably at least 25% of the channel length. The elevation of the intersection point may below the Ycg distance and the axis defines an angle from the vertical that may be related to the loft. The iron-type golf club head may be incorporated in a set containing club heads with varying degrees of unsupported face area.

In a primary embodiment, the weight assembly is made to be threadedly engagable by the opposite end of a dual-function user tool enabling the weight assembly, when unexpanded, to be conveniently moved axially for initial installation, relocation and/or removal.

Golf club and golf club head structures

A golf club head has a body having a ball striking face, a rear opposite the ball striking face, a crown, a sole, a heel, and a toe, the body having a void defined by a peripheral edge on the sole. The body further defines a cover that extends over the void and forms at least a portion of the crown. At least a portion of the peripheral edge of the void includes a lip extending from the peripheral edge inwardly into the void. The golf club head may additionally or alternately include one or more weight receptacles connected to the sole and having an opening in the sole, such that each weight receptacle is configured to receive insertion of a weight through the opening.
