ROPE CLASP
20200346718 · 2020-11-05 ·

A rope clasp device for securing a rope eliminates the need for a knot in a rope by selectively clasping and encasing at least one portion of a rope in a toothed clamp. The rope clasp device comprises a base, at least one, but generally two swinging doors, and a lock. The swinging doors are pivotably coupled to the base in order to be moved between an open position and a closed position. In the closed position, a pair of channels for passage of a rope is defined between the base and the doors. The channels are defined by a plurality of clasping teeth to retain the rope therein.

Mooring Line and Riser Stress and Motion Monitoring Using Platform-Mounted Motion Sensors

A technique for calculating the motion and stress at any location along a riser or mooring line that is connected to an oil platform using data from multiple motion sensors that are installed above the water level on the platform is disclosed. A relationship between motion at the locations of the motion sensors and motion at the point at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform is determined from a model of the platform. From this relationship, the motion at the location at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform is computed from motion that is measured by the motion sensors. The motion and stress at any location along the riser or the mooring line is calculated based on the acceleration at the location at which the riser or mooring line is attached to the platform.

COMPRESSIVE ELEMENT FOR A MOORING COMPONENT

A compressive element for a mooring component includes multiple shells. Each shell has first and second annular portions, and a central section that extends between the first and second annular portions. The first and second annular portions lie in a plane that is perpendicular to a central axis of the compressive element. The first annular portion has a maximum dimension in a direction perpendicular to the central axis that is greater than a corresponding maximum dimension of the second annular portion. The shells are arranged along the central axis such that the first or second annular portion of one shell is joined to the first or second annular portion of an adjacent shell. The compressive element is arranged such that when a compressive stress causes the compressive element to be compressed, the central section of one shell contacts the central section of an adjacent shell.

Described herein are mooring systems for floating structures and methods for manufacturing and installing such mooring systems. The mooring system may comprise a line having a first end operatively connected to the floating structure and a second end operatively connected to an anchor underwater or to a seabed, wherein the line comprises at least two substantially rigid links joined together; and a watertight sheath surrounding the line and extending at least along a length of the line from a position below the waterline to a position above the waterline.

TENSION DEVICE

A tension device for securing a floating structure includes an elastic member, first and second end members, and an inelastic member. The elastic member is stretchable under tension from an unstretched length to a stretched length. The first and second end members are carried at first and second ends of the elastic member, respectively. The inelastic member is secured to the first and second end member and limits the stretched length of the elastic member.

MOORING ROPE

A mooring rope includes a rope body, a fixing sleeve, and a data carrier. The rope body has two fixed segments and a rope loop between the fixed segments. The fixing sleeve combines the two fixed segments. The data carrier includes a connecting piece, a main body, and a tag member. The connecting piece is arranged in the fixing sleeve. The main body is connected to the connecting piece. The tag member is mounted on the main body. The tag member stores information for an external data reader to read in a non-contacting manner. As such, the data carrier can be firmly fixed on the mooring rope without falling off easily.

A mooring member comprises a rope configured for extending between a vessel floating in a body of water and an anchoring device. The mooring member comprises a plurality of functional elements, wherein a first functional element is wound onto at least a portion of the rope, a second functional element is wound onto the first functional element, and so on, until an outermost functional element is wound onto a second-to-outermost functional element. The functional elements are wound in a helical configuration, and are configured to provide at least one of the following functions: damage protection, buoyancy, optical detection, sonar detection, stiffness control, and anti-fouling.

Chafe guard assembly for a watercraft mooring line
10625825 · 2020-04-21 · ·

Apparatus and method for mooring a watercraft to a stationary attachment point such as a dock. A guard assembly reduces chafing between a mooring line and an edge surface of the watercraft using an elongated tube of flexible material through which a medial portion of the mooring line freely passes. A securement strap of the guard assembly extends from a proximal end of the tube and is configured for attachment to an attachment point of the watercraft, such as a cleat. The securement strap has a length sufficient to maintain a medial portion of the tube in interposed relation between the mooring line and the edge surface of the watercraft. The securement strap may be adjustable in length to accommodate different watercraft configurations.
