Fins with improved fluid dynamic properties
10967938 · 2021-04-06 · ·

A fin for use on a surfboard, the fin comprising: a leading edge, a trailing edge, and a base, the base comprising at least one mount for mounting the fin onto a surfboard; a first and a second outer fin surface which meet along the leading edge and the trailing edge and abut the base; and a first ridge protruding laterally from the first outer fin surface, and/or a second ridge protruding laterally from the second outer fin surface; wherein the shape and configuration of the fin creates an area of lower water pressure around and in front of the fin, as well as disrupting and/or reducing the size of trailing vortices, resulting in additional forward thrust for the board on which the fin is mounted.

Surfboard and method of construction

An improved wooden surfboard and method of construction comprised of pre-cut layers of wood longitudinally arranged of predetermined thicknesses (502-512) stacked and bonded together following the shape of the surfboard. The longitudinal layers include slots (208) to slide and embed multiple transverse ribs (210) in perpendicular direction for joining the longitudinal layers together. The bonded longitudinal layers form a pre-shaped plank with the geometrical features of the surfboard without the need of carving and shaping the surfboard's geometry. A smooth finish is achieved after a light sanding of the pre-shaped plank. In some embodiments the longitudinal layers have predetermined perforations (202) to create air chambers (204) reducing the weight of the surfboard. Other embodiments are as described and shown.

HYDROFOIL TO BOARD ATTACHMENT DEVICE
20210114691 · 2021-04-22 ·

The present invention discloses a pair of devices that allows a user to attach a watersports hydrofoil to a watersports board. The devices feature a retention pin on one end and a locking mechanism on the other. The devices screw onto the mating surface of hydrofoil mounting plate parallel to each other and in the orientation where the locking mechanism is in the front. Once attached to the hydrofoil the devices allow for the hydrofoil to be mounted to the board in any location along the length of the two parallel tracks in the bottom surface of the board, permitted the devices fit, without the use of tools. The devices also allow for the hydrofoil to be dismounted from the board without the use of tools. The devices allow the hydrofoil to fold backwards, towards the tail of the board, if the hydrofoil hits an object with enough force, in order to minimize damage to the hydrofoil and the object being hit.

Watercraft device with hydrofoil and electric propeller system

A modular, weight-shift controlled watercraft device is disclosed which includes: a modular board removably attachable to a power system. The power system includes a modular power supply system, and a modular propulsion system. The power supply system includes a housing including a battery. The propulsion system includes a modular strut, a modular propulsion pod, and a modular hydrofoil. In one embodiment, the power supply system is removably and mechanically attachable directly to the propulsion system.

Resiliently flexible fin

A device is proposed, increasing stability of a surfer on a surfboard. It includes an anchoring means connected to the surfboard, in turn, including a negative pressure chamber, a receiving chamber, its nozzle, and an outlet pipe. At least one surfer's foot is anchored by the anchoring means to the surfboard, when it's in motion, by a suction flow formed in water by the negative pressure chamber. The suction flow is conveyed via the pipe to the point where the foot contacts with the surfboard, so that the foot is adhered thereto by negative pressure. The device's first embodiment further includes a fin disposed on the underside rear part of the surfboard, while the anchoring means is disposed inside or on the fin. A second embodiment envisages the anchoring means disposed in a depression made in the underside. The depression is open at the surfboard's bottom, forming a channel.
