An impedance-based impact sensing mechanism including an impedance changing mechanism that changes impedance as the conductive material is moved towards and away from the impedance changing mechanism as the first participant delivers the impact. An impedance-based impact measuring scoring system determines that the impact occurred based on a change in impedance in the impedance changing mechanism.

Fencing Target Assembly
A fencing target assembly for practicing fencing includes a stand that has a plurality of hinged members. The stand is positionable in a deployed position having each of the hinged members defining a respective leg of a triangle such that the stand can be vertically oriented on a support surface. The stand has a track that is integrated into a respective one of the hinged members. A plurality of targets is each attachable to the stand having each of the targets placed at a variety of locations on the stand. In this way each of the targets can facilitate a user to practice fencing maneuvers. Each of the targets has a penetrable element to facilitate a fencing foil to penetrate the penetrable element.

Unconnected paired plate capacitive coupling for touch detection and communication
There is provided herein circuitry and methods for applications including touch detection and, in embodiments, low rate communication such as for secure device authentication. The method uses a circuit having a first device having a first pair of unconnected plates and an edge source coupled therebetween. The circuit further comprises a second device having a second pair of respective unconnected plates and a charge sensor coupled therebetween. The method for touch detection comprises applying at least one differential edge between the first pair of unconnected plates using the edge source and detecting touch by coherently (i.e. in time) sensing an imbalance in a near field channel formed between the plates and an output signal of the charge sensor. The present method/circuit has various applications including for touch detection in fencing and secure device authentication employing both touch detection and bidirectional cryptographic communication between key and secure devices.
Practice sword
A practice sword for practicing martial arts includes a sword hilt body, a blade portion, and a guard portion that separates the sword hilt body and the blade portion. The practice sword is configured such that the sword hilt body and the blade portion have a vinyl chloride pipe as a common core. The blade portion is formed by surrounding the outer surface of the common core vinyl chloride pipe with styrene foam, arranging an elastic cushioning material on a distal surface thereof, and accommodating the styrene foam and the vinyl chloride pipe in a thin and long thick cloth bag. The sword hilt body is formed by abutting top and bottom rod-like pieces of wood against the top and bottom peripheral surfaces of the common core and winding a string around the surfaces of the top and bottom rod-like pieces of wood.
