ANTI-HARMONIC OPTICAL TURBULATORS
20200307757 · 2020-10-01 ·

A system for controlling turbulence of fluid flowing past a window includes an imaging device compartment defining an interior and an exterior separated by a window, wherein the window encloses at least a portion of the interior, wherein the exterior includes at least one turbulator on a side upstream of the window positioned to induce turbulence over the entirety of a boundary layer of the fluid flowing past the window for even heat transfer between the fluid and the window.

PYROTECHNIC DEVICES AND FIRING MECHANISMS FOR AIRCRAFT CANOPY JETTISON
20240010321 · 2024-01-11 ·

Pyrotechnic devices and firing mechanisms for aircraft canopy jettison are disclosed herein. An example firing mechanism includes a housing defining a first bore, a second bore, and a channel between the first bore and the second bore, a primary charge disposed in the second bore, a closure disc between the second bore and the channel, and a firing pin assembly disposed in the first bore. The firing pin assembly includes a percussion primer and a firing pin piston including a piston body, a firing pin extending from the piston body, and a piercing pin extending from the piston body. In response to a firing signal, the firing pin piston is moved toward the primary charge such that the piercing pin punctures the closure disc and the firing pin engages the percussion primer to ignite the primary charge.

Outboard durable transparent conductive coating on aircraft canopy

A coated transparency including an electrically conductive multilayer stack is disclosed. The electrically conductive multilayer stack includes a first metal oxide layer including aluminum doped zinc (AZO), a metal layer including gold, and a second metal oxide layer including AZO. The electrically conductive multilayer stack has a low sheet resistance to provide radar attenuation and anti-static or static-dissipative properties, and has greater flexibility and resistance to corrosion than conventional multilayer stacks used to coat aircraft canopies and other substrates.

Window heating control system and methods of operating the same

A window heating system for providing current to a heating element includes a first sensor, a second sensor, and a sensor selection module configured to determine a state of the first and the second sensors. The sensor selection module includes a first comparator associated with the first sensor and configured to determine whether a condition of the first sensor is satisfied. The window heating system also includes a controller configured to control current to the heating element based on the second sensor when the first comparator determines the condition of the first sensor is not satisfied.

Variable sweep angle motor drive

A windshield wiper system for an aircraft is provided and includes a motor, an output shaft, a wrap spring and crank rocker mechanism (WSCRM) to which the motor and the output shaft are coupled and a controller. By way of the WSCRM, first directional rotation input to the WSCRM from the motor via a two-stage gear reduction is converted such that the output shaft drives wiper blade oscillation through a first sweep angle and second directional rotation input to the WSCRM from the motor is converted such that the output shaft drives wiper blade oscillation through a second sweep angle. The controller is configured to control the motor such that the first directional rotation is continuously or non-continuously input during first or second flight conditions, respectively, and the second directional rotation is continuously input during third flight conditions.

Impulse dampening system for emergency egress

An impulse dampening system reduces peak pressure and impulse acoustic pressures of an acoustic wave to a level that permits initiation of an emergency egress system by personnel in a submerged/flooded cockpit following landing or crashing into water. Initiation of the emergency egress system is available in the air or after the aircraft is in the water. The system attenuates the impulse of the acoustic wave at least 35 dB, where the acoustic wave is usually produced when a detonation chord is initiated. The system includes a first layer of dampening media, a second layer of dampening media, a viscous lensing medium between the layers, and a hard shell.
