Mechanically attached thermal protection system

A mechanically attached thermal protection system (MATPS) includes an insulating tile having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a plurality of access holes that extend through the insulating tile from the top surface to the bottom surface. A plurality of brackets include a first end attached to the insulating tile and a second end including a mounting hole therethrough, the second end being positioned proximate the bottom surface of the insulating tile. A plurality of fasteners are positioned proximate the bottom surface of the insulating tile and at least partially positioned within one of the access holes so as to be accessible from the top surface of the insulating tile through one of the plurality of access holes. A MATPS including a plurality of air channels within the insulating tile and a method for sealing these air channels to those within an adjacent structure is also described herein.

A fastening system includes a first fastening element attachable to a structure and which has a base portion for plugging through a structural opening, a second fastening element, and a plastically deformable funnel element. The funnel element has a funnel-like basic shape with a funnel opening. The second fastening element can be introduced through the funnel opening into a receiving opening of the base portion and fastened therein and has a collar which faces away from the receiving opening and which is larger than the funnel opening. The funnel element is designed to be deformed from the funnel-like basic shape into a flat, disk-like final shape by the collar of the second fastening element during the fastening of the second fastening element.

AIRCRAFT FLOOR ASSEMBLIES WITH DISCONTINUOUS COUPLING BETWEEN LAYERS

A finished floor assembly covers a floor area of an aircraft and includes a subfloor, a padding assembly, and a finish flooring layer. Noise radiates from the subfloor due to vibrations transmitted by an aircraft structure. The padding assembly attenuates the noise and includes a first pad layer, a second pad layer, and a plurality of discontinuous couplings. The first pad layer abuts the subfloor. The second pad layer is adjacent to the first pad layer. The plurality of discontinuous couplings are laterally separated from each other along the floor area by void portions. The discontinuous couplings secure the first pad layer to the second pad layer and the first pad layer and the second pad layer are in contact at the void portions. The finish flooring layer disposed overtop the padding assembly.

Clip system for securing an insulation blanket to a frame

A clip system is configured to secure an insulation blanket to a frame. The clip system includes a first clamp member including an adjustment arm and a first engagement arm, and a second clamp member including a sleeve and a second engagement arm. The sleeve is configured to adjustably retain the adjustment arm to allow the first clamp member and the second clamp member to be moveably adjusted. The first engagement arm and the second engagement arm are configured to securely clamp portions of the insulation blanket and the frame therebetween.

The system also includes a third insulation blanket and a first attachment component disposed on an outboard forward portion of the second insulation blanket and clasping a first frame member of the aircraft such that the first tab and the second insulation blanket are attached to the first frame member. The system also includes a second attachment component disposed on an outboard forward portion of the third insulation blanket and clasping a second frame member of the aircraft that is aft of the first frame member such that the second tab and the third insulation blanket are attached to the second frame member.

The formable coupler (116) is parallel to the second edge (113) of the insulating portion (112) and is perpendicular to the first edge (111) of the insulating portion (112).
