METHOD OF PROVIDING TORQUE PROTECTION AND/OR THRUST PROTECTION FOR PROPELLERS OF A HYBRID HELICOPTER, AND A HYBRID HELICOPTER
A method of providing torque protection and/or thrust protection for the or each propeller of a hybrid helicopter. The hybrid helicopter includes a control system connected to the blades of each propeller and a thrust control configured to generate an order for modifying a pitch of the blades, which order is transmitted to the control system, the propeller(s) being driven in rotation by a mechanical transmission system of the hybrid helicopter. The method includes a step of having the control system keep the pitch of the blades of a propeller within at least one control envelope relating to a thrust generated by the propeller or to a torque exerted in the mechanical transmission system. In this way, the pitch of the blades of each propeller is kept between a lower limit and an upper limit of the control envelope.
Machine learning based airflow sensing for aircraft
Using a set of airflow sensors disposed on an airfoil of an aircraft, first airflow data including an amount of airflow experienced at each airflow sensor at a first time is measured. Using a trained neural network model, the first airflow data is analyzed to determine an airflow state of the aircraft. In response to determining that the aircraft is in the abnormal airflow state, a control surface and a power unit of the aircraft are adjusted. Responsive to the adjusting, the aircraft is returned to the normal airflow state.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROPELLER SPEED GOVERNING
Systems and methods are described for governing the speed of a propeller on a propeller-based engine in an aircraft. The method comprises obtaining a synthesized or estimated blade angle for the propeller of the engine, determining one or more gain for a controller of the propeller based on the synthesized or estimated blade angle and one or more engine or aircraft parameter, determining a difference between a reference propeller speed and an actual propeller speed, applying the one or more gain to the difference via the controller in order to generate a command signal for controlling the propeller, and governing the propeller of the engine using the command signal.
PROPELLER GOVERNOR FOR ELECTRIC SYNCHRONOUS THRUST
A thrust propeller variable pitch actuator is controlled by a governor that uses propeller pitch as a variable to increase or decrease torque—not to maintain the propeller speed or RPM but instead to maintain certain established electric current supplied to rotate the thrust propeller.
Systems and methods for acoustic radiation control
Disclosed is a system, method, and aircraft for controlling acoustic radiation from an aircraft comprising a plurality of rotor systems and a noise controller configured to regulate acoustic radiation from the plurality of rotor systems. The noise controller can be configured to regulate a commanded flight setting from the flight control system and to output a regulated flight setting to the plurality of rotor systems. Based on the regulated flight setting, the plurality of rotor systems are configured to generate, individually and in aggregate, acoustic radiation having a target acoustic behavior. In certain aspects, the noise controller can change the directionality of acoustic radiation from the plurality of rotor systems, or otherwise tune the acoustic radiation to reduce detectability or annoyance.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR OPERATING AN AIRCRAFT POWERPLANT
Methods and system are described for operating an aircraft powerplant comprising an engine coupled to a variable-pitch propeller. The method comprises receiving a request to change a propeller rotational speed from a first setting to a second setting, determining a power need for the engine, when the power need corresponds to the second setting, modifying a command for at least one of fuel flow to the engine and oil flow to the propeller to govern the powerplant in accordance with the second setting for the propeller rotational speed, and when the power need does not correspond to the second setting, overriding the request to change the propeller rotational speed from the first setting to the second setting.
Model-based control system and method for a turboprop engine
Systems and methods for controlling a gas turbine engine and a propeller are described herein. A target output power for the engine and a target speed for the propeller are received. A measurements of at least one engine parameter and a measurement of at least one propeller parameter are received. At least one engine control command is generated based on the target output power, the measurement of the at least one engine parameter and at least one model of the engine. At least one propeller control command is generated based on the target speed, the measurement of the at least one propeller parameter and the at least one model of the propeller. The at least one engine control command is output for controlling an operation of the engine accordingly and the at least one propeller control command is output for controlling an operation of the propeller accordingly.
AIRCRAFT ENGINE
A method of operating an aircraft engine coupled to a wing of an aircraft including: setting a pitch of a plurality of rotor blades of a rotor assembly of the aircraft engine at non-uniform pitch angles along a circumferential direction of the aircraft engine such that the plurality of rotor blades define a first pitch at a first position and a second pitch at a second position, wherein the second position is 180 degrees offset from the first position, and wherein the first pitch is different from the second pitch.
Engine and propeller control system
An electronic controller for an engine and a propeller, a control system and related methods are described herein. The control system comprises the controller having a first channel and a second channel independent from and redundant to the first channel. Each channel comprises a control processor configured to receive first engine and propeller parameters and to output, based on the first engine and propeller parameters, at least one engine control command and at least one propeller control command. Each channel also comprises a protection processor configured to receive second engine and propeller parameters and to output, based on the second engine and propeller parameters, at least one engine protection command and at least one propeller protection command. The control system comprises sensors for measuring the parameters of the engine and/or the propeller and effectors configured to control the engine and the propeller.

There is provided a method and system for operating a turboprop engine of an aircraft. When a resulting value for Ng is between at least one upper limit and at least one lower limit, the output power is governed as a function of the target power. When the resulting value for Ng is on or outside of the at least one upper limit and the at least one lower limit, the output power is governed as a function of the maximum Ng and the minimum Ng.
