An aircraft wing comprises a fixed wing, and a wing tip device at the tip thereof The wing tip device is configurable between (i) a flight configuration for use during flight, and (ii) a ground configuration for use during ground based operations. In the ground configuration with span of the wing is reduced. The wing further comprises a locking mechanism including a locking pin with a longitudinal axis, the locking pin associated with one of the fixed wing and the wing tip device, and a bush associated with the other of the fixed wing and wing tip device, the bush configured to receive the locking pin. The bush is located within a bush housing arranged to allow relative movement of the bush in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the locking pin when the locking pin is received within the bush.

FLAP AND AIRCRAFT

A flap of an aircraft includes a flap body that is provided deployably with respect to a main wing, an inclined portion that protrudes from an upper surface of a tip part on at least an outboard side in a span direction of the flap body and is inclined with respect to an aircraft axis direction, and a protruding portion that smoothly protrudes from a lower surface of the tip part on at least the outboard side. A rear end of the inclined portion is located closer to a side end edge of the tip part in the span direction of the flap body than a virtual line that passes through a front end of the inclined portion and is parallel to the aircraft axis direction.

A wing for an aircraft, including a main wing and a wing tip device, a front blade and a rear blade of the wing tip device extending from an attachment end, a front blade leading edge extending in front of a rear blade leading edge and a front blade trailing edge extending in front of a rear blade trailing edge, in a chord direction, and at a front blade tip the front blade extending under a different dihedral angle than the rear blade at a rear blade tip. The front blade leading and trailing edges, as well as the rear blade leading and trailing edges have a tangent-continuous developing. The front blade leading edge extends tangent-continuously with the wing leading edge. The rear blade trailing edge extends tangent-continuously with the wing trailing edge. The front blade trailing edge extends behind the rear blade leading edge, in the chord direction.

PROPULSION SYSTEM FOR A NON-ROTARY-WING AIRCRAFT, AND ASSOCIATED AIRCRAFT

The invention relates to a propulsion system (20) for a non-rotary-wing aircraft (3), the system comprising an alternating-current generator (24), at least one wingtip propulsion unit (22) comprising an alternating-current motor, and at least one lift-increase propulsion unit (23a-23d) comprising an alternating-current motor. The generator is connected to the lift-increase propulsion unit via a AC/DC converter (261), an intermediate DC distribution stage (260) provided with electric batteries (262) and a DC/AC converter (263a-263d). On the other hand, the generator is connected to the wingtip propulsion unit in such a way as to supply this propulsion unit with alternating current, without intermediate conversion of this alternating current into direct current.

The invention also relates to an aircraft provided with such a propulsion system.

QUIET SLAT PROPELLER

A propeller for an aircraft having a fuselage and a pair of fixed wings includes a mounting member secured to at least one wing. At least one blade is rotatably connected to each mounting member and has an airfoil shape. The at least one blade is in a locked condition during take-off and landing of the aircraft extending parallel to a leading edge of the wing and in an unlocked, rotating condition during flight for propelling the aircraft.

WING-TIP ARRANGEMENT HAVING VORTILONS ATTACHED TO A LOWER SURFACE, AND AIRCRAFT HAVING SUCH A WING-TIP ARRANGEMENT AND THE USE OF VORTILONS ON A WING-TIP ARRANGEMENT
20180050790 · 2018-02-22 ·

A wing-lip arrangement couplable with a wing of an aircraft includes a connection region for coupling or integration with the wing end region, at least one tip, at least one upper surface and at least one lower surface, which extend between a leading edge and a trailing edge of the wing-tip arrangement from the connection region to the at least one tip, and at least one vortilon. The local dihedral of the wing-tip arrangement changes between the at least one tip and the connection region, such that at least a part of the wing-tip arrangement projects at an angle relative to the wing. The at least one vortilon includes a vortilon base and a vortilon tip. The vortilon base is attached to at least one of the at least one lower surface of the wing-tip arrangement. The vortilon tip faces in an upstream direction.

An active winglet includes a body portion substantially parallel to a wing of an aircraft, as if it were an extension of the wing. The body portion is attachable to an aircraft wing and includes a controllable airflow modification device coupled thereto. By virtue of having a controllable airflow modification device, the winglet is capable of adjusting a control surface of the controllable airflow modification device in response to in-flight conditions, to reduce wing loads, increase range, and/or increase efficiency.

FRICTION STIR WELDED WINGTIP TORQUE BOX

Provided are wingtip torque boxes and methods of fabricating such boxes using friction stir welding. Specifically, a wingtip torque box may be formed by friction stir welding two monolithic clamshells along their respective spars thereby forming a new monolithic structure. Use of the friction stir welding and monolithic clamshells simplifies the overall fabrication process and yields a robust wingtip torque box that can be bolted on or otherwise attached to an aircraft wing. The wingtip torque box may include internal grid stiffeners and/or external stiffeners that may be also monolithic with other components of the box. For example, the stiffeners may be machined in spars or skin portions of the clamshells during fabrication of clamshells. The wingtip torque box may have a continuous cavity extending between the ends and, in some embodiments, between spars of the box and providing access for performing various operations inside the box.
