The invention relates to an alignment aid (10) for golfers which provides a reference means for ensuring optimal positioning of the feet, relative both to each other and a golf ball, for a given club selection. The alignment aid comprises a foot-positioning rail (12); a ball-positioning rail (14); and linking arms (16a, 16b, 18a, 18b). A ball assembly for a swing trainer that withstands repeated hits with forces applied by professional athletes. The ball assembly comprises a ball, a wire rope, a ball stud swaged to one end of the wire rope and a connector sleeve swaged to the other end of the wire rope. A whole is drilled through the exact center of the ball and wire threaded therethrough. After the ball stud and connector sleeves are swaged to the ends of the wire rope, the ball stud is pressed into the hole in the ball. The wire rope may be coated to extend life.

A correlation of light received at various parts of the ball provide an event signal which is interpreted by an on-board processor. Determination of current distance and speed is continuously calculated during the roll of the putted ball. Data is relayed to a secondary device capable of displaying the information to a golfer during putting practice sessions. This will help the golfer to train how hard to hit a putt so that it will roll a known distance.

A golf putting swing training aid that may be attached to any golf club that may force a golfer's hands into the proper grip position for various types of golf putting shots is provided. The device and methods of the present disclosure may further allow a golfer to practice these shots to build muscle memory and to ingrain the proper grip and form positions into memory to allow for repeated and consistent shot performance.
