Flying Umbrella Assembly
20220087377 · 2022-03-24 ·

A flying umbrella assembly includes a flying drone that can fly through the air. An umbrella is removably attachable to the flying drone such that the umbrella can be flown above the ground. A tracking unit is carried by a user and the tracking unit broadcasts a tracking signal to the flying drone thereby facilitating the flying drone to fly within a pre-determined distance of the tracking unit. In this way the flying drone positions the umbrella over the user regardless if the user is stationary or in motion. A personal electronic device is in wireless communication with the flying drone. The flying drone receives the sun tracking data from the personal electronic device to optimally position the umbrella for shading the user.

Systems and methods for improving vehicle operations using movable sensors

Among other things, we describe systems and method for improving vehicle operations using movable sensors. A vehicle can be configured with one or more sensors having the capability to be extended and/or rotated. The one or more movable sensors can be caused to move based on a determined context of the vehicle, to capture additional data associated with the environment in which the vehicle is operating.

An unmanned aerial vehicle system includes an unmanned aerial vehicle, a user input device, and ground station. The user input device is configured to generate a signal and control the unmanned aerial vehicle based on the generated signal. The ground station is coupled to the unmanned aerial vehicle via a tether assembly. The ground station includes a motorized spool and a controller. The motorized spool is coupled to the tether assembly and configured to electromechanically control spooling and unspooling of a tether of the tether assembly. The controller is configured to control operation of the motorized spool based on an anticipated movement of the unmanned aerial vehicle.

LIQUID PROPELLED UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE
20220063806 · 2022-03-03 ·

A liquid propelled unmanned aerial vehicle includes a carrier and a nozzle assembly mounted to the carrier. The nozzle assembly includes a nozzle adapted to eject a liquid propulsion jet, and a liquid inlet connection in fluid communication with the nozzle to connect the nozzle assembly to a pressurized liquid source. The nozzle has a variable orientation relative to the carrier. A control unit is operationally connected to the moveable nozzle so as to control the orientation of the nozzle and thereby the direction of the propulsion jet. A stabilising weight is suspended from the carrier and arranged such that a centre of gravity of the aerial vehicle is located in use below the nozzle.

Aerial system utilizing a tethered uni-rotor network of satellite vehicles.
20220063841 · 2022-03-03 ·

A tethered uni-rotor network of satellite vehicles, is made up of a central hub with multiple tethers radiating outward in a hub-and-spoke arrangement. Each tether attaches to a satellite vehicle; each having lifting airfoil surfaces, stabilizers, control surfaces, fuselages, and propulsion systems. The entire system operates in a persistent state of rotation, driven by the propulsion units on each satellite vehicle, so the airfoils generate lift which supports each satellite vehicle and a distributed portion of the weight of the central hub. As the system rotates, centrifugal forces pull each satellite vehicle outwards, which keeps each tether taught and applies tension across each of the lifting surfaces, thereby alleviating the bending moment common to fixed-wing aircraft. This approach reduces the weight within the structural members, utilizes higher aspect ratio wings to reduce induced drag, and employs thin-thickness high-camber airfoil profiles which achieve higher lift-to-drag ratios than standard practice.
