The base rails include tracking slots extending longitudinally, and the tracking member includes tracking elements translatable forward and backward along the tracking slots, allowing an aircraft seat mounted to the tracking member to translate forward and backward relative to the base. The tracking member includes a locking mechanism for locking the tracking member and seat in intermediate positions within the tracking slots. The tracking slots may be oriented slightly downward from the horizontal to allow for gravity-assisted tracking or to counteract the nose-up flight angles associated with cruising altitude, providing for easier seat tracking.

The beam is formed at least of a body made from a first material and defining the lower stiffening structure and an upper platform. The anti-corrosion protection wholly covers an upper face of the upper platform and therewith constitutes the upper flange of the rail, thus layered. The anti-corrosion protection is at least formed of a protective sheet made of a second material more resistant to corrosion than the first material and selected from a metal and a fiber-reinforced plastic composite material. Such a rail exhibits good corrosion resistance for modest cost.

A seat assembly, a multi-passenger vehicle, and a method for attaching seats to a floor of a vehicle that employ an electromagnetic coupling between the seats and the floor. A power supply supplies electricity to the electromagnetic coupling to secure the seats to the floor and is turned off to release the seats from the floor without tools or workers bending down below the seats to remove coupling devices. The seats can therefore be readily repositioned or rearranged to adjust the spacing between the seats. Resident induction coupling is included between the floor of the vehicle and the seats to provide wireless power to the seats.
