Ice reduction mechanism for turbofan engine
A turbofan engine is provided. The turbofan engine includes a fan comprising a plurality of fan blades; a turbomachine operably coupled to the fan for driving the fan, the turbomachine comprising a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section in serial flow order and together defining a core air flowpath; a nacelle surrounding and at least partially enclosing the fan; an inlet pre-swirl feature located upstream of the plurality of fan blades, the inlet pre-swirl feature attached to or integrated into the nacelle; and a means for reducing ice buildup or ice formation on the inlet pre-swirl feature, the means in communication with the inlet pre-swirl feature.
THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A thermal management system for a gas turbine engine includes a heat exchanger including first and second sides, with the first side in contact with flow path air flowing through a flow path of the engine. Furthermore, the system includes a housing positioned relative to the heat exchanger such that the housing and the second side of the heat exchanger define a plenum configured to receive bleed air from the engine. Moreover, the system includes and at least one of a plurality of fins extending outward from the second side of the heat exchanger in a radial direction into the plenum and along the second surface of the heat exchanger in the circumferential direction or an impingement plate defining a plurality of impingement apertures, with each impingement aperture configured to direct an impingement jet of the bleed air within the plenum onto the second side of the heat exchanger.
COMBUSTION ENGINE INCLUDING TURBOMACHINE
A combustion engine including at least one combustion chamber, a first bleed air supply fluidly coupled to a portion of the combustion engine upstream the combustion chamber, a second bleed air supply fluidly coupled to a portion of the combustion engine downstream the combustion chamber, and a turbomachine comprising a first compressor, a second compressor, and a first turbine mounted to a common shaft, with the first and second compressors in serial flow arrangement. The turbomachine, further comprising an intercooler serially fluidly coupling a portion of the first compressor to a portion of the second compressor.
Aircraft ice protection system and method
Ice protection systems of aircraft and related methods are disclosed. In one embodiment of the present invention, the system includes a gas-discharge lamp and an electric power source. The gas-discharge lamp is configured to emit infrared radiation toward an inner surface of an aircraft skin. The electric power source is operatively connected to the gas-discharge lamp.
Ice Detection and Precautionary System Shut-Down Event Reduction Systems and Related Methods
Ice detection test apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed. In some cases, ice detection and precautionary system shut-down event reduction systems and related methods are provided. The system utilizes a turbine engine ice detection apparatus that includes and engine pressure simulation device, an air moving device, and a first air pressure sensor associated with the engine pressure simulation device. The embodiment further includes an ice monitor controller that receives inputs from the first air pressure sensor and at least one second sensor located adjacent a turbine engine intake. The ice monitor controller performs comparisons of inputs from these sensors against each other and stored values to determine actual icing conditions then generate warnings on a display to an operator. The exemplary control section has multiple modes including manual, semi-manual and automatic.
AIRFOIL OF AN AIRCRAFT, AIRCRAFT WITH AN ICE PROTECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD OF ICE PROTECTING THE AIRFOIL
An airfoil of an aircraft with an ice protection system, the airfoil having a leading edge, the ice protection system comprising a first applying mechanism for applying an ice protection fluid along at least a portion of the leading edge of the airfoil, and an ice protection fluid recovering mechanism for recovering the ice protection fluid applied by the first applying mechanism, the ice protection fluid recovering mechanism being arranged downstream of the leading edge of the airfoil. The ice protection system further comprises a second applying mechanism for applying the ice protection fluid recovered by the ice protection fluid recovering mechanism on at least one area of the airfoil arranged downstream of the leading edge of the airfoil. An aircraft may comprise at least one airfoil provided with the ice protection system. A method may be used to protect the airfoil of an aircraft from ice accumulation.
PRESSURE REGULATING VALVE ASSEMBLY
A pressure regulating valve assembly includes: a valve having an upstream side receiving an input flow and a downstream side providing an output flow, an actuator for opening and closing the valve, including partially opening the valve, and a regulator controlling the actuator to open, close or partially open the valve. The regulator includes a sense pressure port, wherein pressure at the port is maintained constant by the regulator. A chamber has a first entry orifice, a second entry orifice and an exit orifice. The first entry orifice is connected to the upstream side, the second entry orifice is connected to the downstream side, and the exit orifice is connected to the port. The exit orifice provides that the pressure at the exit orifice lies between the pressure at the first entry orifice and the pressure at the second entry orifice.

An anterior part of a nacelle of an aircraft propulsion unit. A rigidifying frame annular about a longitudinal axis of extension of the nacelle is at the rear end of the anterior part. An annular shield is in front of the rigidifying frame and connects an internal peripheral edge of the rigidifying frame to an internal structure. The shield has a portion extending towards the external panel beyond the internal peripheral edge of the rigidifying frame, the portion forming a non-zero angle with respect to the rigidifying frame to form a free space with respect to the rigidifying frame behind the portion. The shield can thus deform in the event of an impact of a foreign object entering through the air inlet lip, without the rigidifying frame itself being deformed, thereby absorbing all or some of the impact energy. A nacelle can have such an anterior part, and an aircraft can have such a nacelle.
Metal and composite leading edge assemblies
Various components and methods related to a leading edge assembly are disclosed. The leading edge assembly can include an outer strike shell and a foam core. The foam core can be located inside the outer strike shell. The leading edge assembly can include a heating element with a plurality of sensors and wires. A method of manufacturing a leading edge assembly can include forming a composite layer, applying a metallic layer to the composite layer, installing an electronic device, and inserting a foam core into a cavity bounded by the composite layer and/or the electronic device.
