PARTICLE SEPARATOR
20200332711 · 2020-10-22 ·

An air-inlet duct includes an outer wall, an inner wall, and a splitter. The splitter cooperates with the outer wall and the inner wall to establish a particle separator which separates particles entrained in an inlet flow moving through the air-inlet duct to provide a clean flow of air to a compressor section of a gas turbine engine.

A system that filters airborne particles when the aircraft is in a dusty environment and is disengaged when the aircraft is flying up and away from the dusty environment.

Inertial particle separator for engine inlet

An inertial particle separator for an aircraft engine inlet, including inlet, intermediate and bypass ducts. The intermediate duct extends generally transversally from the inlet duct to the engine inlet, and communicates with the inlet duct adjacent its downstream end. The bypass duct extends downstream from the inlet duct and intermediate duct, and defines an outlet communicating with the environment of the engine. A wall of the intermediate duct intersects a wall of the inlet duct on an engine side of the wall of the inlet duct. The engine side of the wall of the inlet duct defines an engine-side inlet air flow line of the inertial particle separator. A wall of the bypass duct intersects the wall of the intermediate duct closer to a central axis of the engine than an extension of the engine-side inlet air flow line into the bypass duct.

Multiple power assurance check procedure for aircraft with an engine inlet barrier filter installed

A method of conducting an engine power assurance check includes performing a first engine power assurance check wherein the first engine power assurance check is judged as passing or failing based on power performance values calculated assuming the presence of a substantially clogged or blocked inlet barrier filter and in response to a fail result of the first engine power assurance check, performing a second engine power assurance check wherein the second power assurance check is judged as passing or failing based on power performance values calculated assuming at least one of no inlet barrier filter being installed and an open bypass of an installed inlet barrier filter.

Adaptive-curvature inertial particle separators

A particle separator adapted for use with a gas turbine engine includes an inner wall, an outer wall, and a splitter. The splitter cooperates with the inner wall and the outer wall to separate particles suspended in an inlet flow moving through the particle separator to provide a clean flow of air to the gas turbine engine.

Systems and methods for particle separator in a gas turbine engine

A particle separator system for use with a turbomachine is provided. The particle separator system includes a first end, a second end opposite the first end, a main separator body extending between the first and second ends, the main separator body including at least one step configured to cause a fluid flow to turn up to 180 degrees, and at least one transversely oriented cyclone separator disposed within the main separator body and defining at least one of a swirling cylinder, a bent cylinder, and a conical volume.

An air intake unit for an engine of an aircraft and having: a housing, inside which a plenum is defined, which can be connected to the engine of the aircraft; a main intake opening; an air filter which engages the main intake opening; a bypass intake opening; a shutter device, which is coupled to the bypass intake opening and has two partitions, which are mounted so as to rotate around respective rotation axes parallel to and spaced apart from one another; and an actuator, which moves the shutter device between a closed position and an open position. In the open position of the shutter device, an upper partition is arranged transversely to the wall of the housing and in a central area of the bypass intake opening, and a lower partition is arranged parallel to the wall of the housing and overlaps said wall.

Gas turbine engine active clearance control system using inlet particle separator

A turbine section for a gas turbine engine includes blade outer air seals and stator vanes that provide a core flow path. A turbine case supports blade outer air seals and stator vanes. An annular cavity is provided between an interior surface of the turbine case and the blade outer air seals and the stator vanes. A hole extends through the turbine case from an exterior surface to the interior surface. The annular cavity extends axially to an exit. A manifold circumscribes the exterior surface of the turbine case and provides an annular space therebetween. The annular space is in fluid communication with the exit of the annular cavity via the hole.

AIRCRAFT COMPRISING AN AIR INTAKE

An air intake including an air duct inside an aircraft, an inlet at one end of the air duct, a flap door and driving mechanism that moves the flap door between closed and open positions. The flap door includes a barrier filter configured to filter an incoming airflow into the air duct, and wherein the driving mechanism is configured to pivot the flap door about a first end of the door.

Air-inlet duct having a particle separator and an agglomerator for a gas turbine engine

An air-inlet duct includes a particle separator and an agglomerator. The particle separator is configured to receive atmospheric air laden with particles and to direct the particles into a scavenge passageway while allowing the atmospheric air to move into a compressor passageway thereby reducing the number of particles that enter the compressor passageway. The agglomerator is configured to cause the particles to be attracted to one another and cluster together.
