MODULAR AND CONFIGURABLE SPACECRAFT ATTACHMENT AND DEPLOYMENT ASSEMBLIES
A configurable spacecraft attachment and deployment system and a method of constructing a configurable spacecraft attachment and deployment system are provided herein. In one embodiment, the configurable spacecraft attachment and deployment system includes: (1) a connecting structure configured to secure at least one spacecraft to a launch interface, (2) an actuating assembly configured to constrain the spacecraft to the connecting structure before deployment thereof and release the spacecraft from the connecting structure when deployed, and (3) a deploying mechanism coupled to the connecting structure and configured to eject the spacecraft from the attaching structure, wherein the connecting structure, the actuating assembly, and the deploying mechanism are modular components and the connecting structure and deploying mechanism are selected to form the system based on parameters of the spacecraft.
DEBRIS RETRIEVAL CONTROL APPARATUS, DEBRIS RETRIEVAL SATELLITE, CAPTURE INTERFACE INSTRUMENT, CONNECTION DEVICE, AND DEBRIS RETRIEVAL SYSTEM
An apparatus communication device (950) communicates with at least one of a parent satellite (310) and a child satellite (320). A control unit (110) generates a control command (51) to capture debris by sandwiching the debris between the parent satellite (310) and the child satellite (320) and carry out an active control operation during orbital descent on a flying object which is the parent satellite (310), the debris, and the child satellite (320) being connected together. Then, the control unit (110) transmits the control command (51) to at least one of the parent satellite (310) and the child satellite (320) via the apparatus communication device (950).
Customizable integration system for pallet
A pallet assembly is provided and includes one of a bushing, a utility panel assembly and tooling features. The bushing is securably insertable into bushing openings defined in bottom and top pallet assembly panels and pallet assembly sidewalls. The bushing is selected from a group including multiple bushings having bores of various sizes and one or more apertures of varying sizes that are communicative with the bores. The utility panel assembly is supportively disposable on the bottom pallet assembly panel and includes a utility panel having multiple connectors. The tooling features supportively connect the pallet assembly sidewalls to a transport cart.
Guideless resilient androgynous serial port docking mechanism
The Guideless Resilient Androgynous Serial Port (GRASP) mechanism provides an androgynous mechanical and electrical interface that can be tailored to the meet the requirements of a given application. Each mechanism is equipped with physical connections (spring pins) for both power and data transmission between modules.
METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR AUTONOMOUS 3D SELF-ASSEMBLY, SPATIAL DOCKING AND RECONFIGURATION
A method for autonomously assembling a plurality of tiles is performed in a microgravity environment. Each tile includes a shell having a first geometrical shape and an arrangement of first magnets and a controller that are supported by the shell. The controller controls operation of the arrangement of first magnets to self-assemble the shell with another tile. The first magnets are controlled to mate with a complementary arrangement of second magnets on the other tile when the complementary arrangement of second magnets floats to within a range of magnetic attractive force of the arrangement of first magnets, with or without the aid of propulsion. The controllers in the tiles detect the status of the magnetic bonds to determine whether each pair of tiles is properly bonded or has a magnetic bond error. When an error is detected, the tiles are controlled to disassemble and reassemble to correct the error.
SOLAR PANEL MODULE AND SPACECRAFT
A solar panel module includes a solar panel; a printed circuit board combined with a plane of the solar panel and including a microchamber and an ignition circuit; and a propellent inserted into the microchamber and connected to the ignition circuit.
Spacecraft onboard equipment and payload storage system
A spacecraft onboard equipment and payload storage system comprising a spacecraft having an interior volume, wherein said interior volume comprises a interior annular portion; a annular storage support track connected to said spacecraft within said spacecraft's interior annular portion; and at least one storage module that is movably connected to said annular storage support track.
SPACECRAFT WITH UNIVERSAL EXTERNAL PORT
A universal external port is proposed to add new functionality to or replace existing functionality of an already deployed spacecraft (e.g., a satellite in orbit). The universal external port is mounted on an external surface of the spacecraft and configured to connect to different types of external modules that have different functions, without removing components from the spacecraft other than one or more components of the universal external port. A communication interface onboard the spacecraft is configured to wirelessly receive a software patch from an entity remote from the spacecraft (e.g., from a ground terminal or other spacecraft) to program the spacecraft to change operation of the spacecraft to utilize the external module when the external module is connected to the universal external port.
Interlocking, reconfigurable, reconstitutable, reformable cell-based system with nested ring structures
Cell-based space systems with nested-ring structures that interlock and can change configuration to support a mission are provided. The cells may self-assemble into a larger structure to carry out a mission. Multiple rotatable rings may be included in a cell, with a payload/control section in the center. The rings may provide power and/or data to trams that move about the rails. Trams may interlock with other cells, carry sensors or other devices, etc. Cells may be stowed in a cell stack that is deployable. Such cell-based systems may have various applications in space, on Earth, other celestial bodies, and underwater.
System and method for the assembly of large distributed structures in space
A system includes a satellite assembly. The assembly includes a plurality of satellite devices, where each satellite device includes a processor device, an impulse actuator, and a memory storing instructions. The instructions are executable by the processor device to access a sequence of waypoints. The sequence of waypoints identifies a first waypoint and is associated with formation of a distributed structure including the plurality of satellite devices. The instructions are further executable by the processor device to initiate movement of the satellite device toward the first waypoint at least by initiating activation of the impulse actuator.
