According to one embodiment a packaging machine and method for packaging a product is provided in which a cover film is arranged on the product and on a base film which supports the product and is narrower than the cover film; the superimposed films are moved in a first direction to a joining station where both films are attached to one another; and the attached films are moved in the first direction to a cutting station where the films are cut transversely and where the areas of the cover film projecting from the base film are cut longitudinally. The movement of the films is caused by acting on the cover film.

A shielding bag gripping apparatus includes a first suction part extending in a first direction, a second suction part extending in the first direction and spaced apart from the first suction part in a second direction crossing the first direction, a first compression part below the first suction part, and a second compression part below the second suction part. A method for producing a packaging body (51) from a web material that comprises paper, wherein the packaging body (51) comprises an indentation (53) for receiving an item to be packaged, the method comprising: pre-tensioning the web material (14); fixing the web material (14) between a holding-down device (32) and a die (31); molding the indentation (53) in the web material (14); and removing the molded indentation (53) from the die (31).

An apparatus for packaging a product with an extensible film, including a conveyor for conveying a product to the apparatus, an evacuating device for evacuating a product from the apparatus at the end of packaging, an unwinding device to unwind the extensible film from a reel mounted on the apparatus, a tensioning device for tensioning the extensible film, the unwinding device including a first gripping element and a second gripping element that are movable independently of one another in an unwinding direction for unwinding the extensible film from the reel.
