Demand Based Wrapping
A control system for a wrapping apparatus may include a packaging material dispenser configured to dispense packaging material for wrapping a load. The control system may also include at least one sensor assembly configured to generate a signal based on instantaneous demand for packaging material at the load. The control system may further include a controller configured to control operation of the packaging material dispenser based at least in part on the signal.
Wrapping machine
A wrapping machine for wrapping a product with a plastic film includes a frame, a supporting ring rotatably supported by the frame and rotated around a wrapping axis by a driving device, an unwinding unit fixed to the supporting ring and supporting a reel of film, pre-stretching rollers rotating about longitudinal axes and cooperating with each other to unwind and stretch the film, and a pre-stretching motor fixed to the frame and coupled to, and arranged to rotate, the pre-stretching rollers through a respective transmission assembly. The transmission assembly includes a driving ring rotatably supported by the frame and rotated about the wrapping axis by the pre-stretching motor through a friction roller, and a driving belt wound around, and rotated by, the driving ring and coupled to one pre-stretching roller to rotate the pre-stretching rollers when the driving ring is rotated by the pre-stretching motor.
Electronic control of metered film dispensing in a wrapping apparatus
An apparatus for wrapping a load may include a film dispenser for dispensing a film web including a film dispensing drive. The apparatus may also include a rotational drive system for providing relative rotation between the load and the dispenser during a wrapping cycle. The apparatus may further include a controller configured to operatively couple the film dispensing drive and the rotational drive system such that, for any portion of a revolution of the film dispenser relative to the load during the wrapping cycle, the film dispenser dispenses a selected length of the film web corresponding to the portion of the revolution.
Stretch wrapping machine with curve fit control of dispense rate
A method, apparatus and program product utilize curve fitting to control a dispense rate for a packaging material dispenser. Predicted demands at a plurality of rotational positions of a load relative to a packaging material dispenser may be used to generate one or more points to which a curve may be fit, such that dispense rates may be determined for rotational positions between those for which predicted demands have been determined using the curve.
Exhaust Blower for Orbital Pallet Wrappers
An orbital wrapping apparatus generally includes a base frame, a circular ring assembly, a cutting assembly mounted to the base frame and, an air exhaust assembly mounted above. The stretch film dispenser includes a roll of stretch film dispensing the stretch film by rotation of the circular ring assembly, a subframe fixed to the circular ring assembly and the roll of stretch film is mounted on a loading assembly attached to the subframe, and a first feed roller and a second feed roller are mounted to a portion of the subframe that is movable between a first position adjacent to an axis extending through the first and second end caps and a second position spaced further apart from the axis. The cutting assembly is adapted to cut and hold the stretch film while the air exhaust assembly is adapted to release wrapping that could be clinging to the cutting assembly.
Stretch wrapping machine with automatic load profiling
A method, apparatus and program product perform automatic load profiling to optimize a wrapping operation performed with a stretch wrapping machine. Automatic load profiling may be performed, for example, to determine a density parameter for a load that is indicative of load stability such that one or more control parameters may be configured for a wrapping operation based upon the density parameter. Automatic load profiling may also be performed, for example, to detect a load with a nonstandard top layer, e.g., a load with a top or slip sheet, a load with an easily deformable top layer, a load with a ragged top surface topography and/or a load with an inboard portion, such that a top layer containment operation may be activated during wrapping to optimize containment for the load.
Dynamic Adjustment of Wrap Force Parameter Responsive to Monitored Wrap Force and/or For Film Break Reduction
A method, apparatus and program product monitor a wrap force during a wrap cycle to dynamically control the dispense rate of a packaging material dispenser to meet a desired containment force to be applied to a load. A conversion may be performed between wrap force and containment force for the monitored wrap force or a containment force parameter to facilitate the performance of a comparison between the monitored wrap force and a containment force parameter associated with the desired containment force to be applied to the load. A wrap force parameter may also be dynamically adjusted, and in some instances, the dynamic adjustment may be responsive to monitored wrap force, and may be used to meet a load containment force requirement for a load. In other instances, the dynamic adjustment may be responsive to monitored packaging material breaks to reduce the occurrence of packaging material breaks.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HANDLING AND DISPENSING OF ITEMS
Embodiments of product handling systems facilitate transfer of individual product items from incoming bulk form into dedicated trays for inspection, sorting, selection, and packaging. Inspection may comprise interrogation of product items within a tray by electromagnetic (e.g., optical, hyperspectral) or other (e.g., physical, acoustic, gas sensing, etc.) techniques. Prior to packaging, product items disposed within the tray may be stored in a moveable carousel responsible for controlling environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, illumination, ambient gases, product-to-product interactions, and/or others. Movement of product items from a carousel's transfer station to an outside staging position may be accomplished using robots and/or conveyor belts. Embodiments may allow rapid, low-cost consumer selection of specific individual product items based upon their accompanying metadata (e.g., source, identifier), in combination with the results of inspection (e.g., visual appearance). Embodiments may receive product items pre-packaged in tray format to expedite inspection, sorting, selection, and packaging.
Automatic roll change for stretch wrapping machine
An automatic roll change system for a stretch wrapping machine may include multiple mechanically-actuated load stations capable of being actuated by a common actuator assembly, as well as pivotable support members for use in positioning packaging material in a tortuous path for loading into a packaging material dispenser.
