Paperboard corner, and method of manufacturing the same
09764527 · 2017-09-19 · ·

The invention concerns an elongated protective corner for the transport and/or packaging of products. The corner has at least two non-corrugated paperboard plies combined together to create two perpendicular wings and an apex. The plies form multiple ply sections, and at least one of the ply sections of a given ply overlaps another ply section of the same ply. This overlapping arrangement gives the apex a resistance force of about 100 to about 500 lbs. The thickness of the corner can vary, with each wing being in the range of about 100 to about 250 points, and each ply is made from paperboard having a grammage of about 120 to about 380 g/m.sup.2. The resistance force can be determined by mounting the corner upon two blocks, and applying a force to the apex at a middle of the corner until a fracture is detected.

A top frame with locking features is provided. The top frame includes four legs having a top surface and a bottom surface. The top frame includes a first interlocking feature in the form of a plurality of protrusions and a second interlocking feature in the form of indented receptacles on the top surface. The plurality of protrusions can be provided proximate a corner of the top frame and the plurality of indented receptacles can also proximate the corner but spaced from the plurality of protrusions. Each corner of the top frame can include a plurality of protrusions and a plurality of indented receptacles. Each occurrence of the plurality of protrusions and the plurality of indented receptacles can alternate about the top surface of the top frame. The bottom surface can also include the same pattern of locking features.

TRANSPORT CONTAINER AND TRANSPORT METHOD

A transport container includes: a bottom member where the transported object is placed; left and right side members disposed beside the bottom member; a handle disposed above the bottom member; left and right lower connecting members interconnecting the bottom member and side members; and left and right upper connecting members interconnecting the side and the handle members, which are respectively interconnected via hinges. When the handle is not lifted, the side members are separated from the bottom member. When the handle is lifted, the side members laterally support the transported object. As for the transport method, with the transported object stacked in the up-down direction, the transport container is installed at an unloading location such that the lower and upper connecting members are laid to be non-parallel to the side member, and the transported object is taken out from the front or rear between the left and right side members.

A securing apparatus includes a main body that defines a cavity sized to receive a portion of an object, such as a box's corner. The securing apparatus includes at least one anchor extending from the main body that is configured to engage with the corner portion of the object such that the securing apparatus may be removably coupled thereto. The main body of the securing apparatus may include eyelets configured to receive a length of filament such that multiple objects may be secured to one another during packaging and shipping. Additionally, the securing apparatus may also include a projecting finger that is configured to retain a length of filament that may be used to attach the object more securely to a pallet or other structure for shipping.
