THERMALLY INSULATED SHIPPING SYSTEM FOR PARCEL-SIZED PAYLOAD

Shipping container for a temperature-sensitive payload. In one embodiment, the shipping container includes an insulated base having a bottom wall and four side walls. A first thermally conductive member is positioned on the bottom wall. A payload box is centered on top of the first thermally conductive member, and four frozen packs, each having a thickness matching the height of the payload box, are positioned along the four sides of the payload box. An insulating frame may be placed around the payload box to keep the frozen packs from directly contacting the payload box. A second thermally conductive member is positioned on top of the payload box and the four frozen packs, and an insulated lid is positioned on top of the second thermally conductive member and the four side walls of the base. One, both or neither of the thermally conductive members may be removed to optimize seasonal suitability.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a heat insulating container capable of suppressing the deterioration of heat insulation performance even if the volume of an object stored is reduced. A heat insulating container 1 includes a storage space 13 formed by a bottom wall 11 and side walls 12, a container body 10 having an opening 14 continuous to the storage space 13, and a deformable plate-shaped lid 20. The lid 20 is configured such that at least a part thereof is deformed in a state of being inserted into the storage space 13 through the opening 14 of the container body 10 thereby to bring peripheral edges 21 thereof into close contact with the inner surfaces of the side walls 12 of the container body 10.

Insulated shipping container with rabbet-joint side panels
10647498 · 2020-05-12 ·

Insulated shipping container with rabbet-joint side panels and the procedure for making the same. The insulated shipping container consists of an outer box and six insulated panels. The outer box is made of corrugated fiberboard. The insulated panels are made of expanded polystyrene foam with a thickness of at least 2 inches. The panels are cut with a hotwire machine and the rabbet-joint design locks the side panels in place, which gives the insulated container superb structural and thermal integrity. The box is assembled with a specific H-shape taping and the six panels are inserted to form the insulated container. The invention is the first to meet the packaging requirements of postal carriers and their insurance underwriters. The cost-effective manufacturing process allows for multiple container sizes without additional setup expense, which lowers the cost of shipping affected by dimensional weight versus actual rate shipping rates by the carriers.

Package delivery mechanism in an unmanned aerial vehicle

A package delivery mechanism (PDM) of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is described. The PDM includes a gravity activated locking mechanism to lock and unlock a package attached to the UAV based on the weight of the package. When the package is attached to a suspension member of the UAV, the locking mechanism automatically engages with the package and keeps the package locked to the suspension member, due to the weight of the package. When the package is lowered and reaches the ground, the weight of the package is offloaded from the suspension member, which enables the locking mechanism to be disengaged, thereby releasing the package.
