A skate (e.g., an ice skate) for a user (e.g., a hockey player). The skate comprises a skate boot for receiving a foot of the user and a skating device (e.g., a blade and a blade holder) disposed beneath the skate boot to engage a skating surface. The skate boot may be constructed by molding (e.g., injection molding) so as to have useful performance and/or characteristics (e.g., reduced weight; enhanced fit, comfort and range of motion; enhanced appearance; etc.) while being cost-effectively manufactured.

ICE SKATE

A blade holder for an ice skate (e.g., for playing hockey). The ice skate comprises a skate boot for receiving a foot of a skater. The blade holder comprises a blade-retaining base to retain a blade and a support extending upwardly from the blade-retaining base to interconnect the blade holder and the skate boot. Visual characteristics of the blade holder may enhance its aesthetics and/or other aspects related to its visual appearance (e.g., an effect on the skater, elaborateness and/or customization of its visual appearance, etc.). The blade holder may be lightweight and/or provide other performance benefits to the skater.

ICE SKATE

A blade holder for an ice skate (e.g., for playing hockey). The ice skate comprises a skate boot for receiving a foot of a skater. The blade holder comprises a blade-retaining base to retain a blade and a support extending upwardly from the blade-retaining base to interconnect the blade holder and the skate boot. Visual characteristics of the blade holder may enhance its aesthetics and/or other aspects related to its visual appearance (e.g., an effect on the skater, elaborateness and/or customization of its visual appearance, etc.). The blade holder may be lightweight and/or provide other performance benefits to the skater.

SKATE

A skate for skating on ice, in which a blade holder and/or a blade of the skate may be designed to: improve skating, including speed, power, agility (e.g., turning), and/or other performance aspects of a user while skating, such as by providing enhanced stiffness characteristics of the blade holder (e.g., an improved stiffness profile in a longitudinal direction of the blade holder, better torsional stiffness of the blade holder, etc.); facilitate replacement or other installation and/or removal of the blade (e.g., by allowing toolless installation and removal of the blade from the blade holder while protecting against accidental release of the blade from the blade holder upon the blade holder and/or the blade being impacted in use); enhance retention of the blade by the blade holder; improve an appearance of the blade and/or the blade holder (e.g., at an interface of the blade with the blade holder); and/or otherwise enhance the skate.

The pedestal has an internal cavity defined therein separate and spaced from the elongated groove and the recess. A locking arm is engaged to the pedestal and movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. The locking arm has an engagement end protruding into the recess through an opening defined in a wall of the pedestal. A greater portion of the engagement end protrudes into the recess in the locked position than in the unlocked position. At least a major part of the locking arm, including the engagement end, remains outside of the internal cavity of the pedestal in the locked and unlocked positions. A blade assembly is also discussed.

A goalie skate assembly has i) a plastic blade mounting member adapted to releasably receive a metal skate blade therein, and ii) a monocoque carbon fiber and resin composite skate boot body for receiving a foot of the user therein. The unitary structure of the skate boot body includes i) a sole portion, ii) a heel portion extending upwardly from the sole portion for receiving a heel of the user therein, iii) a pair of side portions extending upwardly from opposing sides of the sole portion, and iv) a lower portion extending downwardly from a bottom side of the sole portion so as to surround at least a portion of the blade mounting member. A toe cap mounted on the skate boot body includes a molded plastic outer shell and a liner formed of a fiber and resin composite material bonded to an inner surface of the outer shell.
