System and method for collecting medical waste that monitors the waste for objects that may have been inadvertantly discarded
A mobile cart that holds a bag for receiving solid waste generated during a medical or surgical procedure. The cart includes a sensor that monitors whether or not an object containing metal is placed in the bag. A processor monitors the signal output by the sensor. If the sensor signal indicates that an object with a minimal amount of metal is placed in the bag, the processor momentarily asserts an audible alarm and continuously asserts a light alarm. The light alarm remains asserted until turned off. If, while the light alarm is on, the sensor signal indicates a second object with the minimal amount of waste is placed in the container, the processor again momentarily asserts the audible alarm. This provides notice that it may be necessary to investigate the contents of the bag to determine if not one but two or more objects were inadvertently discarded.
BIN
A bin for receiving or storing one or more items. The bin includes a wall having an upper end and a lower end, and a bottom extending along the lower end of the wall. The wall and the bottom cooperate to define a chamber for receiving or storing one or more items. The bin also includes mouth at the upper end of the wall that is in communication with the chamber. The bin further includes a rim extending around a periphery of the mouth. The bin also includes content information on at least a portion of an exterior surface of the rim that is configured to identify the one or more items the bin is intended to receive or store.

Methods and systems for waste management
A lid assembly for use with a waste management system includes a lid having an opening defined therethrough, wherein the lid assembly is configured to couple to a container. The lid assembly also includes at least one flap assembly including a counterbalance mechanism pivotally coupled to the lid and a flap portion coupled to the counterbalance mechanism. The flap assembly is moveable between a closed position and an open position to selectively obstruct the opening.
CHUTE SYSTEM FOR WASTE AND OTHER MATERIALS
A chute system for a building including: an inlet, through which an item is received; a chute, coupled to the inlet, and an outlet, coupled to the chute. The outlet includes a sealing surface, configured to form a seal with an opening of a receptacle into which the item is to be received. The sealing surface is configured to enable a seal to be formed with different receptacles having different sized or shaped openings.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ORGANIC WASTE COLLECTION IN MULTI-UNIT RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS
Effective systems for separating, collecting and transferring organic waste from multi-unit residential buildings to deliver to composting centres are described which facilitate the reduction of contamination of the organic waste with non-compostable plastic bags. This is accomplished both by ensuring that the residents are constantly provided with compostable replacement bags for their kitchen caddies after each delivery of a bag by the resident to the recycling room, and through consistent marking that reminds residents of the system's requirements.
Compostable organic waste collection method and materials
A method of collecting and processing organic waste material is disclosed, comprising, placing organic waste in an identifiable can liner, placing the can liner in a general waste stream, and at a later point in time removing the can liner from the waste stream while maintaining the integrity of the contents therein.
SELECTIVELY REMOVABLE RECEPTACLE WITH SECURING ELEMENTS
A selectively removable receptacle with securing elements for engaging a container is provided. The selectively removable receptacle may be configured as a bag for use in various containers, such as, but not limited to, trash and/or recycling containers. The receptacle or bag may include one or more securing elements, such as adhesives, that secure the bag to the inside of the container while concealing the presence of the bag when viewing the container from the outside. The adhesive elements prevent the bag from falling or sliding down into the container either by gravity or when items are placed inside the bag that is positioned inside the container.
