The container selector includes a carriage supporting the picker and movable relative to the container repository to move the picker around the container repository. The order consolidator receives the pharmaceutical containers and places the pharmaceutical containers in a shipping package. The order consolidator transporter receives the pharmaceutical containers after they have been picked by the picker and transports the pharmaceutical containers toward the order consolidator.

The indelible identifiers on the articles are visually or electronically readable to allow each respective article to be traced with respect to its manufacturer, prescribing physician, patient to whom it was prescribed, dispensing location, expiration date, dosage, or some combination thereof. An associated system and method may involve the provision of a remote database element configured to be in network communication between the marking apparatus, manufacturer, distributor, prescriber, dispensing location, scanning tool, or some combination thereof. The indelible identifier may initially be generated by the apparatus and then obtained and recorded by the remote database element. Alternative, the indelible identifier may initially be generated and recorded by the remote database element, then provided to the marking apparatus.

The posture changing portion 50 causes the cap 92 to slide and generate a frictional force when the capsule 90 passes through the posture changing portion 50, and thus causes the body 91 to precede the cap 92. The pressing member 40 includes: a protruding portion 41 that presses an axially central portion of the capsule 90; and cap pressing portions 42 and 43 that are provided on both sides of the protruding portion 41, and presses the cap 92 of the capsule 90 whose posture has been changed by the posture changing portion 50.
