SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING AND TRANSFERRING SHEETS
Provided are systems and methods for identifying, isolating, and/or aligning sheets. An identification system can facilitate accurate identification of a sheet by (i) vacating one or more components of the system that are not the sheet from a zone of detection, and/or (ii) determining a reference axis of the sheet. An isolation system can facilitate accurate isolation of a sheet by (i) providing targeted air flow, and/or (ii) introducing a wave into the sheet. Identification systems and/or isolation systems described herein may facilitate isolation of sheets that were previously fastened together by one or more fasteners. An alignment system can facilitate accurate alignment of a first sheet at an upstream location relative to a second sheet at a downstream location via machine learning.
Medium transport device and recording apparatus
The medium detection unit is a component constituting an optical path of the detection light, and includes a first optical element disposed on an upper side of the medium transport path and a second optical element disposed on a lower side of the medium transport path so as to face the first optical element, the second optical element has a facing surface that faces the first optical element, the facing surface being located at a position that is not in contact with a medium nipped by both the first roller pair and the second roller pair, and a medium feeding direction by the first roller pair is a direction by which a leading edge of a medium fed out abuts a position upstream in the medium transport direction relative to a position where the detection light is received on the facing surface.
SHEET FEEDING APPARATUS
A controller controls a floating unit and a conveyor to convey a sheet to a supply destination, and performs a following control of acquiring a detection value of a detector which detects an output signal acquired due to an input to a side of a sheet stack, during floating of sheets floated by the floating unit each time a sheet is conveyed by the conveyor and lifting a stacking tray upon the acquired detection value being less than a threshold value. The controller controls the floating unit and the conveyor to perform a feeding retry upon an occurrence of empty feeding in the conveyor, and determines the threshold value such that a target position for a height position of an upper surface of the sheet stack in the following control is a position where empty feeding is more likely to occur than multiple sheet feeding in the conveyor.

Sheet feeding device and image reading apparatus
A sheet feeding device includes a stacking tray for stacking a sheet; a sheet detector for detecting presence/absence of the sheet on the stacking tray; a feeder for feeding the sheet detected by the sheet detector; an LED, provided adjacent to the sheet stacked on the stacking tray, for emitting light; a display, provided substantially in parallel with an optical axis of the LED, for being illuminated by the light emitted from the LED; a reflector, provided opposed to the display portion, for reflecting and scattering the light emitted by the LED, toward the display; and a controller for controlling emission of the light of the LED on the basis of a signal outputted by the sheet detector.

Media bin sensors
A printing apparatus includes a media bin and a sensor, directed toward the media bin, having a first emitter and a receiver. The printing apparatus further includes a second emitter to emit photons toward the optical sensor, and a controller. The controller determines presence of a print media on the media bin based on a count of photons received from a source other than the first emitter, including the second emitter.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING METHOD
An image forming apparatus includes: a feed tray that contains printing paper therein; a user authentication unit that authenticates a user who is permitted to print; a paper loading detection unit that detects printing paper loaded into the feed tray; a memory device that stores a user authenticated as a paper-supplementing user; a paper feeding mechanism that feeds the printing paper from the feed tray; a paper jam detection unit that detects a paper jam; and a controller that controls a print job. The controller, when a paper jam has occurred, determines whether or not the paper jam is due to the paper-supplementing user having loaded the printing paper in an improper manner. Upon determining that the paper jam is due to the paper-supplementing user having loaded the printing paper in an improper manner, the controller, subsequently when the paper-supplementing user uses, requests that a loading condition be checked.
