Adaptive sheet caliper control system and apparatus and methods

The present invention provides an adaptive control system to control a plant using direct output feedback in which a function of the full plant state, as opposed to estimates thereof, is used for feedback control of the plant. The adaptive control system of this invention is therefore highly useful in the control of plants, particularly plants for controlling the physical properties of rolls of web material and more particularly a calendering apparatus. Accordingly, in a particularly preferred embodiment the adaptive control system of this invention controls loading of a calender apparatus, such as a pair of opposed rolls forming a calendering stack, based upon the physical properties of a previously processed web.

Machine and method for winding strips of web material with means for the transverse cutting of the strips at the end of winding

The machine (1) comprises: —an unwinding section (3) for unwinding parent reels (Ba, Bb) of web material (N; S); —at least one winding station (15) comprising a winding device (25) and further comprising: guide members for guiding the strip (S) of web material, configured to form at least a loop of web material between a guide roller (43) and a log (B); and a cutting device (61) for transversally cutting the strip (S) of web material in an intermediate position between the log (B) and the guide roller (43), thus generating a tail edge, remaining on the log (B) being formed, and a leading edge, remaining fastened to the guide roller (43).

HIGH BACK COIL CAR DESIGNED TO FACILITATE AUTOMATIC BANDING ON THE COIL CAR

A strip process line has a high back coil car for automatically banding coil of metal strip on the coil car. The process line runs while banding occurs on the coil car. The coil car includes an outer frame, and coil receiving saddle with a pair of blocker rolls or a “V” saddle, and a hold down arm and a plurality of strap guide channels. By the high back car being docked with an automatic loading station, the process line can run while the banding takes place on the coil car, and keeps the operator safely away from the coil car until the banding is completed.

Surface rewinder with center assist and belt and winding drum forming a winding nest

A rewinding machine winds a web material into a log about a core. The web material to be wound is directed about a rotating winding drum. A continuous loop is spaced from the winding drum and with the winding drum defines a nip through which the core is inserted and through which the web material is directed. A surface of the continuous loop opposite the winding drum across the nip is configured to move in a direction generally opposite of the winding drum for winding the web material about the core. A rider roll defines a winding space with the winding drum and the continuous loop. The rider roll is movable relative to the continuous loop and the winding drum to allow for an increase in a diameter of the log in the winding space during winding of the web material about the core.

AIR-FLOATING THIN FILM BONDING APPARATUS AND ITS AIR-SUPPLYING ROLLER

An air-floating thin film bonding apparatus and its air-floating roller is provided. The apparatus is composed of an air-floating rollers, which can blow out airflow at a specific angle to be applied to the base film with three-dimensional obstacles. The positive pressure provided by the airflow can be utilized to fill the gap space caused by the three-dimensional obstacles. Therefore, the base film can bond to the bonding film tightly to overcome the wrinkles and defects caused by the three-dimensional obstacle and the problem of unflatness of the film-bonding can be solved.
