A device (1) applies adhesive to cores which are used to produce a log includes a moving means (3) configured to cause at least one core (5) to advance along a feed direction (A) and a dispensing means (7) configured for dispensing an amount of adhesive (9) on the core (5). The dispensing means (7) are moveable along an application direction (B) substantially orthogonal to the feed direction (A) and are configured to selectively dispense an amount of adhesive (9) along portions (11) of the core (5) during movement along the application direction (B).
Core with cushion strip
A core for winding sheet material is proved. The core comprises a cylindrical tube having a longitudinally oriented slot formed therein, and a strip of soft material located in the slot. Because of the geometry of the slot and the strip, the strip may be softer in the central region but firmer where the core transitions from the relatively soft strip to the relatively hard tube. The leading edge of the sheet material imbeds itself into the soft central region of the strip as additional layers are wound around the core.

Because of the geometry of the slot and the strip, the strip may be softer in the central region but firmer where the core transitions from the relatively soft strip to the relatively hard tube. A packaged flexible film is described. The packaged flexible film includes (i) a cylindrical core having an outer surface; (ii) a supply of flexible film wound about the core with a leading edge adjacent the outer surface and forming a connection ridge along the outer surface; and (iii) a cover strip comprising a compressed compressible cover material covering said connection ridge. Also described are a packaging system for flexible film and a multilayer flexible film packaging tape.

A dispenser housing for dispensing a multi-layer tape transfer tape used in a paper web turn-up operation, the transfer tape being the combination of a tape substrate coated on one side with a web grabbing adhesive and on the other side with a mounting adhesive and an affixed cord or cordlike feature, and a release liner having a release liner substrate fully coated on a first side with a release layer and zone-coated on a second side with a release layer, the transfer tape being wound onto a single spool with the release liner facing inward and the mounting side adhesive facing outward, such that buckling is precluded when the transfer tape is unwound from the spool.
Turn-up Device For a Reel-up Forming a Single Reject Part
In a reel-up for reeling of fiber webs, a web travelling in direction (S) is cut by two water jet nozzles moving in a transverse direction. Two cuts (C1, C2) are formed by the nozzles starting from the web edges moving to the web center where the cuts (C1, C2) cross or meet forming a V-shaped tail end (V1). After the cuts nozzle movement is stopped and after the return of the nozzles, cutting is restarted from the center toward the edges so the web W is cut by two cuts (C3, C4) forming a substantially V-shaped beginning end (V2) and between the cuts (C1, C2) for the tail end (V1) and the cuts (C3, C4) for the beginning end (V2) there is formed one web reject part (R) with two substantially V-shaped cuts. Cross-direction travel distance (L1, L2) of each nozzle is substantially shorter than the web width.
Method and apparatus for winding a sheet of homogenized tobacco material into a bobbin
The invention relates to a method for winding a sheet (13) of homogenized tobacco material into a bobbin (12), the method comprising: providing a sheet of homogenized tobacco material having a free end (11); connecting the free end to a center core; rotating the center core so as to wind the sheet of homogenized tobacco material around it forming the bobbin; and applying a force per unit length to the sheet of homogenized tobacco material during winding to pull the same having a magnitude comprised between about 42 N/m and about 93 N/m.

Method of threading a fibrous web and a reel-up for carrying out the method
The invention relates to a method of threading a fibrous web (W) onto a circular cylindrical object (3, 19) in a reel-up (2) for a paper-making machine (1). The reel-up (2) comprises an endless flexible belt (6) mounted for rotation along a predetermined path of travel. The endless flexible belt (6) is positioned adjacent the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) during winding and the fibrous web (W) residing on the outside surface (8) to engage the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) during winding such that the endless flexible belt (6) is deflected from the predetermined path of travel. When a fibrous web (W) is to be threaded onto the circular cylindrical object (3, 19), the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) is placed at a distance from the endless flexible belt (6) such that the endless flexible belt (6) is no longer deflected from the its path of travel. A narrow tail (17) is cut from a fibrous web (W) that is to be threaded and the narrow tail (17) is advanced on the outside surface (8) of the endless flexible belt (6). The circular cylindrical object (3, 19) is moved towards the endless flexible belt (6) such that the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) comes into contact with the narrow tail (17) and an adhesive substance is applied to the to the narrow tail (17) such that the narrow tail (17) will adhere to the circular cylindrical object and starts to be wound on the circular cylindrical object (3, 19), whereafter the narrow tail (17) is widened. The invention also relates to a reel-up (2) capable of carrying out the method.
Method of threading a fibrous web and a reel-up for carrying out the method
The invention relates to a method of threading a fibrous web (W) onto a circular cylindrical object (3, 19) in a reel-up (2) for a paper-making machine (1). The reel-up (2) comprises an endless flexible belt (6) mounted for rotation along a predetermined path of travel. The endless flexible belt (6) is positioned adjacent the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) during winding and the fibrous web (W) residing on the outside surface (8) to engage the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) during winding such that the endless flexible belt (6) is deflected from the predetermined path of travel. When a fibrous web (W) is to be threaded onto the circular cylindrical object (3, 19), the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) is placed at a distance from the endless flexible belt (6) such that the endless flexible belt (6) is no longer deflected from the its path of travel. A narrow tail (17) is cut from a fibrous web (W) that is to be threaded and the narrow tail (17) is advanced on the outside surface (8) of the endless flexible belt (6). The circular cylindrical object (3, 19) is moved towards the endless flexible belt (6) such that the circular cylindrical object (3, 19) comes into contact with the narrow tail (17) and an adhesive substance is applied to the to the narrow tail (17) such that the narrow tail (17) will adhere to the circular cylindrical object and starts to be wound on the circular cylindrical object (3, 19), whereafter the narrow tail (17) is widened. The invention also relates to a reel-up (2) capable of carrying out the method.
