A machine to produce stacks of folded pop-up wipes from material that is threaded along a path having a direction through the machine. The machine includes a holder, a first tension unit, a perforation unit to generate perforations in the material in a direction orthogonal to the direction of the path, and a folding unit to fold the material in a direction orthogonal to the direction of the path. The material is threaded along a path through the machine via the first tension unit, the perforation unit and the folding unit. A control unit controls the machine to produce folded pop-up wipes by individually controlling tension of material along one or more sections of the path and to increase tension of the material in a section of the path located after the perforation unit to stretch a generated perforation in the section of the path by a target distance.

Method for reducing the effects of parent roll variations during unwinding

A method for reducing the effects of variations in an unwinding, convolutely wound roll of web material is disclosed. The method utilizes the steps of: a. selecting a reference objective relating to a downstream operation, b. choosing at least one feedback device correlated to the reference objective, c. collecting process data from the at least one feedback device at different positions within a time-varying operation cycle for at least one operation cycle at a learning speed, d. calculating an error as the difference between the collected process data from step (c) and a reference signal related to the selected reference objective, e. generating a correction signal based upon the calculated error from step (d) and, f. applying the correction signal to the actuator during a succeeding time-varying operation cycle.

Provided is an image forming apparatus with rollers capable of coming into contact with or leaving a recording medium, in which meandering of the recording medium is suppressed. The apparatus includes a tension adjuster for adjusting a tension applied to the recording medium nipped between a plurality of roller pairs. The tension adjuster is located upstream of, among the roller pairs, the most upstream roller pair located on the most upstream side in the conveyance path or downstream of, among the roller pairs, the most downstream roller pair located on the most downstream side in the conveyance path and the tension adjuster rotates in the direction of conveyance of the recording medium to adjust the tension of the recording medium.

BASE MATERIAL PROCESSING APPARATUS AND DETECTION METHOD

A base material processing apparatus includes first and second edge sensors and a displacement amount calculation part. The first edge sensor acquires a first detection result (R1) by detecting the position of an edge of a base material in a width direction at a first detection position. The second edge sensor acquires a second detection result (R2) by detecting the position of the edge of the base material at a second detection position. The displacement amount calculation part calculates the amount of displacement in the position of the base material in the transport direction or the amount of difference in the transporting speed of the base material on the basis of the first and second detection results (R1, R2). Thus, the amount of displacement in the position or the amount of difference in the transporting speed can be detected without depending on images such as register marks.

SEALING LID HAVING PATTERNED ADHESIVE

A blank for sealing a tray having one or more compartments includes a face stock with a pressure sensitive adhesive pattern which closely matches the top surface area of the tray, excluding the tray compartment areas. The pattern may be precisely formed with the pressure sensitive adhesive containing a coloring or fluorescing agent. The adhesive forms an identifiable registration mark used for properly aligning the adhesive pattern for die cutting the face stock in a specific location in relationship to the pattern. Various types of sensors may be used to identify the registration mark. Alternatively, the pattern may be precisely formed by printing a blocking or deadening agent in a pattern that contains a sensor mark with a blocking or deadening agent that contains a coloring or fluorescing agent, onto a flood coated pressure sensitive adhesive. This pattern forms an identifiable registration mark that is used to properly align the blank for cutting the face stock in a specific location in relationship to the adhesive pattern.
