The controller is configured to: based on a conveyance speed of a web detected by the conveyance speed detector, control a value of a drive control parameter of the conveyance motor such that the conveyance speed of the web is equal to a target speed; and, based on an output torque of the conveyance motor corresponding to the value of the drive control parameter, adjust a braking force of the brake applied to the back tension roller which applies a tension to the web such that the tension of the web is equal to a target tension.

A printer is disclosed. The printer has a media control system to control the tension in media loaded in a paper path in the printer. A motor in the media control system is characterized to determine a plurality of motor characteristics. The media control system uses the motor characteristics to adjust the control signal to the motor.

A tension-shaft speed controller controls a tension-control-shaft motor on the basis of the line speed reference and the adjustment manipulated variable during the adjustment of the control gain.

The controller monitors signals generated by the tension-sensor and the edge-sensor, and in response to the signals: a) causes the speed at which the second platform rotates to change to maintain a predetermined tension in the second material as the second material travels from the first platform toward the second platform, and b) causes the second platform to move relative to the first platform to align the edge of the second material traveling toward the roll of second material with the edge of the second material in the roll.

An improved fabric tension control apparatus and method consisting of a fabric handler with a feed roller, an idler roller and a take up roller and where fabric on the feed roller is transferred from the feed roller past the idler roller to the take up roller. A feed roller motor is connected with the feed roller and a take up roller motor is connected with the take up roller. A motion sensor tracks speed of rotation of the idler roller. A feed roller driver is connected with the feed roller motor and a take up roller driver is connected with the take up roller motor. A controller is connected with the feed roller driver, the take up roller driver and the motion sensor where the controller receives the speed of rotation of the idler roller from the motion sensor and where the controller sends speed adjustment instructions to the take up roller driver and the feed roller driver and where the speed adjustment instructions are sent to the feed roller motor and the take up roller motor such that the speed of the take up roller and the feed roller are adjusted such that the speed of the idler roller is constant so as to maintain a desired tension on the fabric as it is transferred.

The circuitry is configured to convey the medium intermittently while repeating: causing the sheet conveyor and the sheet winder to convey the loosened medium by a predetermined conveyance amount; rotating the winding motor in a normal direction by a predetermined torque according to an outer winding diameter of the medium to apply a predetermined tension force to the medium; and rotating the winding motor in a reverse direction to loosen the medium by a predetermined slack amount. The circuitry is configured to determine the predetermined tension force according to the width of the medium intersecting with the conveyance direction of the medium.
