A second sheet sensor detects the sheet at a position between the pickup member and the feeding member. A control portion causes the feeding portion to start feeding of a subsequent sheet when the subsequent sheet is detected by the second sheet sensor at a first timing after detection of a preceding sheet by the first sheet sensor. Furthermore, the control portion causes the feeding portion to start feeding of the subsequent sheet at a second timing later than the first timing, when the subsequent sheet is detected by the second sheet sensor at the first timing.

A supply apparatus that supplies corrugated cardboard sheets to a supply position in a box-making section that opens folded corrugated cardboard sheets and makes boxes. The supply apparatus comprises a conveying unit, a drive unit, and a control unit. The conveying unit conveys a plurality of the corrugated cardboard sheets to the supply position with the corrugated cardboard sheets stacked. The drive unit drives the conveying unit. A controller, serving as the control unit, estimates the total quantity of the plurality of stacked corrugated cardboard sheets on a conveying surface of the conveying unit. The controller acquires a value pertaining to the drive force of the drive unit when the drive unit drives the conveying unit, and estimates the total quantity of the plurality of stacked corrugated cardboard sheets on the basis of the acquired value.

Provided is an image forming system capable of reliably preventing others from removing and taking printed matter even though printing is executed beforehand. The confidential notation reading unit reads a confidential notation. The user storage tray has a structure from which outputted printed matter cannot be removed unless the opening/closing door is opened. The locking mechanism locks the opening/closing door. The sorting mechanism sorts the printed matter outputted from the image forming apparatus and outputs the printed matter to either the open tray or the user storage tray. The sorting control unit outputs printed matter to which a confidential notation is not added to the open tray, and outputs a printed matter to which a confidential notation is added to the user storage tray, respectively.

According to one embodiment, a sheet conveying device includes a placement tray, a presence detection sensor, and a control unit. The placement tray places a sheet thereon. The presence detection sensor detects the presence or absence of the sheet on the placement tray. The control unit delays a determination timing of the presence or absence of the sheet placed on the placement tray to a predetermined timing when a condition indicating that the remaining sheets placed on the placement tray are only a few is satisfied.

A sheet feeding apparatus includes a sheet stacking portion, a lift plate, an actuating segment, driving unit, a sheet feeding portion, a first detecting portion, a remaining amount detection portion. The remaining amount detection portion includes a detection piece, a link mechanism, a second detecting portion, a controller. The link mechanism couples together the driving shaft and the detection piece at a coupling position attained by pivoting the lift plate through a predetermined angle from a lower limit position in rotation direction, so as to let the driving shaft and the detection piece rotate together. The second detecting portion senses whether or not the detection piece is present. The controller determines the remaining quantity level of the stacked sheets according to whether or not the second detecting portion is detecting the detection piece being present.

A cable retractor includes a housing. A motorized drive section within the housing urges at least a segment of cable past the drive section. A chamber within the housing holds at least another segment of the cable that is stored freely without a specific arrangement of the cable. The motorized drive section urges the cable in a first direction to draw the at least another segment from the chamber, then past the motorized drive section, and then through an external opening in the housing to outside. The motorized drive urges the cable in a second, opposing direction to draw the another segment through the external opening in the housing from outside, then past the motorized drive section, and then into the chamber, the another segment being urged freely into the chamber without a specific arrangement of the cable in the chamber.

A media feeding apparatus includes a media mounting section, a first feed roller, a media pressing section for pressing media sheets against the first feed roller, and a pressing force adjuster for adjusting the pressing force of the media pressing section. The controller sets the pressing force of the media pressing section to first pressing force and drives the first feed roller and the second feed roller in a forward rotation direction, and in a case in which the first detector detects a passage of a leading edge of the media sheet and the second detector detects no passage of the leading edge of the media sheet after predetermined first set time has passed, the controller continues the rotation of the first feed roller and the second feed roller with second pressing force of the media pressing section greater than or equal to the first pressing force.

An image forming apparatus includes a sheet storage unit including a sheet tray on which one or more sheets are to be stacked, a sensor configured to detect that the sheet storage unit is being operated, and a processor configured to execute a predetermined process after the sensor detects that the sheet storage unit has been operated, and a predetermined condition relating to an occurrence of the sheet conveyance error is satisfied.

An automatic document feeder includes a media path to route media through the automatic document feeder, at least one media tray to one of supply the media to the media path and receive the media from the media path, and an automated media tray extender at an end of the media tray, the automated media tray extender to be positioned based on a presence of the media in the media tray.
