According to one embodiment, a sheet post-processing device includes a first tray to receive sheets from an image forming unit, a second tray to receive sheets from the first tray, and a third tray to receive sheets from the second tray. The third tray is movable relative to the second tray. A bundle claw is configured to move sheets in a first direction from the second tray to the third tray. A controller is configured to move the third tray relative to the second tray according to the sheets on the second tray. Depending on various characteristics of the sheets on the second tray or the presence of sheets already on the third tray, the position of the third tray may be changed to reduce possible misalignments of sheets in the transfer from the second to third tray.

According to one embodiment, a sheet post-processing device includes a first tray to receive sheets from an image forming unit, a second tray to receive sheets from the first tray, and a third tray to receive sheets from the second tray. An image forming apparatus includes first and second light emitting units, a light receiving unit for receiving light of the first light emitting unit when it is reflected, and receiving light of the second light emitting unit when it is not reflected, to output a signal of a predetermined level, and a control unit for starting light emission of the first light emitting unit before a front end of a paper sheet reaches an area, stopping light emission of the first light emitting unit while starting light emission of the second light emitting unit before a rear end of the paper sheet passes the area, and detecting a length of the paper sheet based on time after the output signal becomes a predetermined level during light emission of the first light emitting unit until the output signal becomes the predetermined level during light emission of the second light emitting unit.

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a casing, an electric cable including a conductor and an insulator configured to cover the conductor, and a guide member attached to the casing and configured to guide the electric cable, wherein the guide member includes a wire-forming member formed of a metal wire, and wherein the electric cable is wired along the guide member with at least one of the electric cable and the guide member twisted around the other of the electric cable and the guide member.

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a casing, an electric cable including a conductor and an insulator configured to cover the conductor, and a guide member attached to the casing and configured to guide the electric cable, wherein the guide member includes a wire-forming member formed of a metal wire, and wherein the electric cable is wired along the guide member with at least one of the electric cable and the guide member twisted around the other of the electric cable and the guide member.

A print media detection apparatus may include a movable scanner bar for scanning media, a feeder tray for supplying the print media, a print media indicator and a controller. The print media indicator may include a first portion to interact with the print media within the feeder tray and a second portion coupled to the first portion to move in response to movement of the first portion. The scanner bar is to sense the second portion of the media indicator. The controller is to determine a characteristic of the print media within the feeder tray based upon sensing of the second portion by the scanner bar.

A feed detection unit which detects a document which is fed is provided at a position between a pinching position at which a feed roller and a frictional force application portion pinch the document and an intersecting position at which a tangential line of the feed roller which is closer to a downstream side in a transport direction than the pinching position is perpendicular to a transport path in the transport direction, which is a different position from the feed roller in a width direction which intersects the transport direction.

A feed detection unit which detects a document which is fed is provided at a position between a pinching position at which a feed roller and a frictional force application portion pinch the document and an intersecting position at which a tangential line of the feed roller which is closer to a downstream side in a transport direction than the pinching position is perpendicular to a transport path in the transport direction, which is a different position from the feed roller in a width direction which intersects the transport direction.

A sheet feeding apparatus includes a first feeder, a second feeder, and processing circuitry. The first feeder includes a sheet stacker, an air blower, a suction feeder, and a remaining amount detection sensor. The air blower blows air to float an uppermost sheet. The suction feeder sucks and feeds the sheet. The remaining amount detection sensor detects a remaining amount of sheets stacked. The processing circuitry determines whether the remaining amount of sheets in the first feeder is smaller than a threshold, causes the first feeder to perform a feeding operation of feeding the sheet floated by the air blower to the suction feeder in response to a determination that the remaining amount is equal to or greater than the threshold, and causes the second feeder to feed a sheet instead of the first feeder in response to a determination that the remaining amount is smaller than the threshold.
