Image forming apparatus to detect widths of recording material
An image forming apparatus includes a stack portion, a regulation portion, a detection unit, and a control unit. The regulation portion regulates a position of an edge of recording material stacked on the stack portion. The detection unit detects the position of the edge of the stacked and regulated recording material, and outputs a detection signal per the recording material edge detected position. Where the position of the recording material edge is detected, the control unit obtains a first width of the recording material stacked on the stack portion, calculates a second width of the recording material based on the detection signal output from the detection unit, and obtains a third width of the recording material by correcting a width of the recording material based on difference information between the second width of the recording material and the first width of the recording material.

Switch and resistor array for detecting paper tray dimensions
In one example, an apparatus includes a first switch array including a first plurality of switches. A first resistor array includes a first plurality of resistor pairs, where each resistor pair in the first plurality of resistors is coupled to one switch of the first plurality of switches. The apparatus also includes a second switch array including a second plurality of switches. A second resistor array includes a second plurality of resistor pairs, where each resistor pair in the second plurality of resistors is coupled to one switch of the second plurality of switches. The apparatus further includes a plurality of output nodes configured to transmit an analog voltage, where each output node of the plurality of output nodes is connected to one resistor pair of the first resistor array and one resistor pair of the second resistor array.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes a stack portion on which a sheet is to be stacked, a regulating portion, a first detection device which includes a rotary variable resistor, a second detection, and a control unit. The regulating portion regulates a position of an edge of the stacked sheet. The first detection device outputs a detection signal based on the rotary variable resistor. The rotary variable resistor rotates in accordance with the sheet edge position regulated by the regulating portion. The second detection device detects presence or absence of the stacked sheet. The control unit calculates a calculated sheet width of the stacked sheet based on the output detection signal. The control unit sets the calculated sheet width after a first predetermined time has elapsed since the second detection device detects that the sheet is stacked on the stack portion as a detected sheet width of the stacked sheet.
SHEET STORAGE APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
A sheet storage apparatus, including an apparatus body, a storage portion, a regulating portion configured to slidably move in a first direction with respect to the storage portion, a cam member provided in the storage portion and configured to slidably move in a second direction by interlocking with a movement of the regulating portion in the first direction, the second direction intersecting with the first direction and being along an attaching/detaching direction of the storage portion, a slide member provided in the apparatus body and configured to slidably move in the second direction by engaging with the cam member, and a sensor including a moving portion and outputting a detection value that varies in response to a position of the moving portion in the second direction, the moving portion slidably moving in the second direction by engaging with the slide member.
ADAPTIVE SHEET CALIPER CONTROL SYSTEM AND APPARATUS AND METHODS
The present invention provides an adaptive control system to control a plant using direct output feedback in which a function of the full plant state, as opposed to estimates thereof, is used for feedback control of the plant. The adaptive control system of this invention is therefore highly useful in the control of plants, particularly plants for controlling the physical properties of rolls of web material and more particularly a calendering apparatus. Accordingly, in a particularly preferred embodiment the adaptive control system of this invention controls loading of a calender apparatus, such as a pair of opposed rolls forming a calendering stack, based upon the physical properties of a previously processed web.
Method for adapting at least one winding parameter of a winding device
The invention relates to a method for adapting at least one winding parameter of a winding device during winding of a film web on a winding core, having the following steps: conveying of the film web along a measuring path between a first driven roll and a second driven rollincreasing of the web tension of the film web between the first roll and the second rollcontinuous detecting of the drive parameters of the first roll and of the second roll at least in the form of the torque and the circumferential speed, determining of a stress-strain diagram from the detected drive parametersadapting of at least one winding parameter of the winding device on the basis of the determined stress-strain diagram in order to achieve a defined elongation of the film web during winding on the winding core.
Sheet feeding device and image forming apparatus including the same
A sheet feeding device includes a sheet stacking base having a base surface for a sheet, a feeding member, and a pair of cursors. The pair of cursors includes first and second cursors that separate from and come close to each other along the sheet width direction, and is movable between first position and second position. The first and second cursors are separated by the maximum distance at the first position and by the minimum distance at the second position. The first cursor includes a movable base part, and a movable sub-cursor. When a narrow sheet is placed on the base surface, the sub-cursor is moved from the reference position toward the second cursor to be brought into contact with a side face of the narrow sheet to thereby position the narrow sheet.
