An elevator safety system and a method for testing functionality thereof. A method for testing functionality of an elevator braking system. In the method, a first connector is connected in parallel to both ends of a first contact, then a second contact is transitioned to a disconnected state, to determine whether the functionality of a second holding brake is operating normally based on the motion state of a car after the second contact is transitioned to a disconnected state. A second connector is further connected in parallel to both ends of the second contact, then the first contact is transitioned to a disconnected state, to determine whether the functionality of a first holding brake is operating normally based on the motion state of the car after the first contact is transitioned to a disconnected state.

Method for testing a brake of a hoisting machine and system

A method for testing an elevator hoisting machine brake with a preselected test load TL includes confirming empty elevator car positioned at a test location s.sub.test; obtaining information of elevator balancing B; obtaining information of friction F.sub.r of the elevator at the test location s.sub.test; determining required assisting test torque T.sub.M of a hoisting machine motor based on said test load TL, balancing B and friction F.sub.r; opening one of the brakes while keeping rest of the brakes engaged in braking position, applying torque with the motor at most up to the required test torque T.sub.M, measuring movement of the elevator car, and if movement of the elevator car was detected, generating a signal indicating degraded condition of one or more hoisting machine brakes.

A method and elevator system includes a main module that is operable in a configuration mode, a detection mode, and an elevator operation mode. At least one sub-module is connectable to the main module when in the configuration mode, and the sub-module has an initialization mode and a recognized mode. At least one activation tool is selectively actuated by a user to activate the detection mode. In response to activation of the detection mode, the main module returns to the configuration mode and initiates communication with the sub-module while in the initialization mode. In response to communication from the main module, the sub-module communicates a plurality of sub-module characteristics to the main module. In response to review and certification of the plurality of sub-module characteristics, the main module accepts the sub-module as an approved sub-module and the sub-module enters the recognized mode.

SAFETY METHOD AND AN ELEVATOR DRIVE SYSTEM FOR AN ELEVATOR SYSTEM COMPRISING REDUCED BUFFERS

A safety method is performed for an elevator system including reduced buffers. The method includes: detecting a reduced braking force of a hoisting machinery brake arrangement, and adjusting at least one limiting parameter limiting an elevator motion in response to detecting the reduced braking force, the elevator motion representing a motion of an elevator car of elevator system. An elevator drive system and an elevator system are also provided.

METHOD OF DOING MAINTENANCE ON AN ELEVATOR

A method of doing regular maintenance on an elevator includes steps of: (i) putting a robot on a car of the elevator; (ii) positioning the car with the robot at a landing to admit at least one operator into the car; (iii) positioning the car with the robot and the operator at a maintenance position; (iv) executing the maintenance with the robot in response to operator input; (v) positioning the car with the robot and the operator at a landing to release the operator from the car; and (vi) taking the robot from the car.
