An illustrative example elevator system includes at least one elevator car that is moveable along a hoistway. An elevator controller is configured to respond to a communication from a portable device indicating a desire for the at least one elevator car to be placed in a maintenance mode and indicating a location of desired hoistway access. The controller automatically moves the elevator car to a determined positon based on the communication. That position corresponds to the location of the desired hoistway access. The controller performs at least one automated procedure to place the elevator car in the maintenance mode. The controller provides an indication to the portable device that the elevator car is in the determined position and that the automated procedure has been completed.

A method for taking an elevator of an elevator group into service mode includes entering in the input device of the elevator group a maintenance signal which comprises an elevator definition part, upon entering of the maintenance signal the elevator identified in the elevator definition part is removed from landing call allocation, the identified elevator is initiated to serve all remaining car calls and then to drive to a maintenance floor and to wait there for maintenance operation.

A process for operating an elevator control device, whereby for local access to the elevator control device via a programming device, the elevator control device automatically sends an identifier to the programming device and the identifier is input to an operator panel associated with the elevator control device. The elevator control device permits the local access when the previously sent identifier has been entered correctly within a predetermined input time.

The invention relates to a method for resetting a safety mode of an elevator system. The safety mode is caused by a power cycle of the elevator system. The method comprises: obtaining, upon a restoration of a power supply of the elevator system, status information indicative of a current safety status of at least one safety space of the elevator system from an elevator safety detection system; receiving, from a remote elevator service entity, a reset command comprising an instruction to reset the safety mode of the elevator system; and resetting the safety mode of the elevator system in response to receiving the reset command, if the obtained status information fulfills a predefined criterion. The invention relates also to an elevator safety control unit, a remote reset system, a computer program, and a computer-readable storage medium for resetting a safety mode of an elevator system.

Hoist elevator operation systems include a floor call station installed on a level or floor of a construction site, as well as a car controller paired to an operator panel and installed in a hoist elevator car. A method and elevator system includes a main module that is operable in a configuration mode, a detection mode, and an elevator operation mode. At least one sub-module is connectable to the main module when in the configuration mode, and the sub-module has an initialization mode and a recognized mode. At least one activation tool is selectively actuated by a user to activate the detection mode. In response to activation of the detection mode, the main module returns to the configuration mode and initiates communication with the sub-module while in the initialization mode. In response to communication from the main module, the sub-module communicates a plurality of sub-module characteristics to the main module. In response to review and certification of the plurality of sub-module characteristics, the main module accepts the sub-module as an approved sub-module and the sub-module enters the recognized mode.
