A method for manufacturing a microelectromechanical systems microphone comprises depositing a membrane on a first sacrificial layer on a substrate, releasing the membrane by removing the first sacrificial layer, depositing a resist layer on the membrane, and patterning the resist layer to expose the membrane, such that at least one section of resist layer remains at at least one edge of the membrane to form an anchor. A microphone manufactured by this method is also provided. There is also provided a method for manufacturing a microelectromechanical systems microphone comprising depositing a membrane on a first sacrificial layer deposited on a substrate, releasing the membrane by removing at least the first sacrificial layer, depositing a resist layer on membrane, patterning the resist layer to expose an edge of the membrane, and forming an anchor at the exposed edge of the membrane. A microphone manufactured by this method is also provided.

A method for manufacturing a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone comprises depositing a membrane on a first sacrificial layer, wherein the first sacrificial layer is deposited on a substrate, etching the substrate to define a cavity, releasing the membrane by removing at least the first sacrificial layer, and forming at least one anchor at the edge of the membrane.

An optical sensing device includes a substrate, a sensing element layer, a first planarization layer, and a second planarization layer. The sensing element layer is located on the substrate and includes a plurality of sensing elements. The first planarization layer is located on the sensing element layer and has a first slit. The second planarization layer is located on the first planarization layer and has a second slit. An orthogonal projection of the first slit extending in a direction and located on the substrate is not overlapped with an orthogonal projection of the second slit extending in the same direction and located on the substrate, and the orthogonal projection of the second slit on the substrate has a curved pattern.

Dual-Layer Micro-ribbon MEMS Light Modulator
An optical system including a dual-layer microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) device, and methods of fabricating and operating the same are disclosed. Generally, the MEMS device includes a substrate having an upper surface; a top modulating layer including a number of light modulating micro-ribbons, each micro-ribbon supported above and separated from the upper surface of the substrate by spring structures in at least one lower actuating layer; and a mechanism for moving one or more of the micro-ribbons relative to the upper surface and/or each other. The spring structures are operable to enable the light modulating micro-ribbons to move continuously and vertically relative to the upper surface of the substrate while maintaining the micro-ribbons substantially parallel to one another and the upper surface of the substrate. The micro-ribbons can be reflective, transmissive, partially reflective/transmissive, and the device is operable to modulate a phase and/or amplitude of light incident thereon.

Microfabricated ultrasonic transducer having individual cells with electrically isolated electrode sections
An ultrasonic transducer includes a membrane, a bottom electrode, and a plurality of cavities disposed between the membrane and the bottom electrode, each of the plurality of cavities corresponding to an individual transducer cell. Portions of the bottom electrode corresponding to each individual transducer cell are electrically isolated from one another. Each portion of the bottom electrode corresponds to each individual transducer that cell further includes a first bottom electrode portion and a second bottom electrode portion, the first and second bottom electrode portions electrically isolated from one another.
TOP NOTCH SLIT PROFILE FOR MEMS DEVICE
Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) device in which a slit at a movable mass of the MEMS device has a top notch slit profile. The MEMS device may, for example, be a speaker, an actuator, or the like. The slit extends through the movable mass, from top to bottom, and has a width that is uniform, or substantially uniform, from the bottom of the movable mass to proximate the top of movable mass. Further, in accordance with the top notch slit profile, top corner portions of the MEMS substrate in the slit are notched, such that a width of the slit bulges at the top of the movable mass. The top notch slit profile may, for example, increase the process window for removing an adhesive from the slit while forming the MEMS device.
Fused quartz dual shell resonator and method of fabrication
A dual-shell architecture and methods of fabrication of fused quartz resonators is disclosed. The architecture may include two encapsulated and concentric cavities using plasma-activated wafer bonding followed by the high-temperature glassblowing. The dual-shell architecture can provide a protective shield as well as a “fixed-fixed” anchor for the sensing element of the resonators. Structures can be instrumented to operate as a resonator, a gyroscope, or other vibratory sensor and for precision operation in a harsh environment. Methods for fabricating a dual-shell resonator structure can include pre-etching cavities on a cap wafer, pre-etching cavities on a device wafer, bonding the device wafer to a substrate wafer to form a substrate pair and aligning and bonding the cap wafer to the substrate pair to form a wafer stack with aligned cavities including a cap cavity and a device cavity. The wafer stack may be glassblown to form a dual-shell structure.
Molecule Sensor Component and Method for Manufacturing Same
A method for manufacturing a component and a component are provided for sensing a molecule. The method includes controlling a temperature during a reaction of two gases that react to produce a crystalline film spanning at least a cross-sectional area of a nanoaperture defined by a substrate among an array of nanoapertures aligned with crater structures defined by the substrate. A unique chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method that introduces a first gas and a second gas allows for formation of the crystalline film. When used in a molecule sensor, the component enables a user to record double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) translocations at unprecedented high (e.g., 1 MHz) bandwidths. The method for manufacturing the component enables development of applications requiring single-layer membranes built at- scale and enables high throughput 2-dimensional (2D) nanofluidics and nanopore studies.
