Method for Creating Hydrophilic Surfaces or Surface Regions on a Substrate
In a method for creating hydrophilic surfaces or surface regions on one or more silicon surfaces of a substrate, a vapour phase of hydrogen peroxide is generated in a reactor by heating an aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution. The substrate having the silicon surface or surfaces to be treated is exposed to the vapour phase, whereby a hydrophilisation of the silicon surfaces in achieved.
ACTIVELY CONTROLLED SURFACES
Active surface structures comprise an exposed surface, a controlled group of MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) actuators, and a controlled region of the exposed surface corresponding to the controlled group. The controlled region has a first state, and a second state that is less textured than the first state. Active surface structures may be part of an apparatus that includes a controller and/or one or more sensors. The controller, sensors, and the controlled region may form a feedback loop in which the active surface structure is actively controlled.

The MEMS substrate has a first surface and a pillar is on the first surface. The first buffer layer is on the first surface. The first roughening layer is on the first buffer layer. The CMOS substrate has a second surface and is bonded to the MEMS substrate via the pillar. Moreover, an air gap is between the first roughening layer and the second surface of the CMOS substrate.
Microfluidic products with controlled fluid flow
A microfluidic product utilizing gradient surface energy coatings for fluid control comprising a plurality of fluid passages wherein at least one fluid passage comprises a coating configured to control liquid flow wherein the coating configured to control liquid flow comprises a gradient surface energy coating from a proximal location to a distal location on a surface of the fluid passage. The product can include uniform regions and surface gradient regions in the same passage. Coating compositions and product dimensions can be selected to provide control over different flow properties including fluid velocity, reduction and acceleration of fluid flow, and starting and stopping fluid flow.
SILICON NANOWIRE CHIP AND SILICON NANOWIRE CHIP-BASED MASS SPECTRUM DETECTION METHOD
The present disclosure discloses a silicon nanowire chip and silicon nanowire chip-based mass spectrometry detection method. The detection method includes the following steps: step 1 of manufacturing a silicon nanowire chip, comprising: subjecting a monocrystalline silicon wafer to a surface washing pretreatment, a metal-assisted etching and a post-alkali etching to obtain a silicon nanowire chip with a tip, and performing a surface chemical modification or a nanomaterial modification on the silicon nanowire chip; step 2 of evaluating mass spectrometry performance of the silicon nanowire chip; and step 3 of performing a tip-contact sampling and in-situ ionization mass spectrometry detection.

The flexible structure comprises a frustum-shaped portion having a wider end and a narrower end, wherein the wider end of the frustum-shaped portion is arranged proximal to the support, and an elongated portion extending from the narrower end of the frustum-shaped portion, wherein the flexible structure further comprises a stretchable conducting film arranged on the frustum-shaped portion. A method of preparing such a sensor is also provided.
Textiles having a microstructured surface and garments comprising the same
The present invention relates to textile articles and clothing such as outdoor garments, indoor garments, and commercial protective wear exposed to contact mixtures of water and oil, swimwear and winter wear exposed to mixtures of water and air. At least part of these textile articles possess a surface provided with at least one of 1) a high surface area, 2) hierarchical pattern, 3) contact angles such that hydrophilic portion of a contact mixture possesses a high contact angle and the hydrophobic portion of a contact mixture possesses a low contact angle, and 4) hysteresis angle greater than 5 degrees. Hydrophobic/Hydrophilic contact mixtures of the present invention can be surfaces where water and or ice are present in combination with oil and or air. The textile articles of the present invention resist slippage on surfaces possessing hydrophobic/hydrophilic contact mixtures.
Surface topography with ferromagnetic polymer pillars capable of movement in response to magnetic fields
An anti-fouling surface having micron scale pillars embedded with Fe.sub.3O.sub.4 nanoparticles is designed. The pillars may be repeatedly induced to move according to a predetermined frequency, such as one that mimic that of the beating movement of natural cilia, through the application of a magnetic field. When square-shaped pillars with a height of 10 μm, width of 2 μm, and inter-pattern distance of 5 μm actuated for three minutes, more than 99.9 percent of biofilm cells were detached and via gentle rinsing from the surface having the pillars. The anti-fouling surface enables effective prevention of biofilm formation and removal of established biofilms, and can be applied to a broad spectrum of polymers.
