20190046998 · 2019-02-14 ·

The botanical extraction and purification device described in this patent provide the ability to extract and purify botanical compounds from a diverse plant species through specially crafted process sequences that effectively reach the desired botanical component despite differences in botanical material types and unique differences in organic chemical characteristics. The technological package consists of two main processing centers; each is a combination of process features that can be personalized to effectively address unique extraction requirements. When combined, the extraction processes deliver capabilities in product throughput speed and product purity not available using previously available separation methods. The first component of this package is a CUP that transfers chemical compounds from botanical material into a solvent. The second component is an AISP. This device separates unwanted botanical compounds from the solvent, resulting in a relatively pure plant extract.

Apparatus and method for extracting organic compounds from plant material using carbon dioxide

An apparatus for extracting organic compounds from plant materials using subcritical or supercritical carbon dioxide is described. The apparatus has a sealable pressure chamber into which carbon dioxide dry ice and the plant materials are inserted, the pressure chamber, once sealed, self-pressurizing as the container and contents are warmed to a chosen temperature, converting the solid CO.sub.2 to liquid, or to a super-critical fluid as the temperature and pressure are raised above the Critical Point. The chamber can be rotated when subcritical CO.sub.2 liquid is employed to improve mixing between the liquid and the plant material. After a suitable extraction time, the carbon dioxide solvent containing the extracted material is directed into a separator such that the carbon dioxide and extracted material can be effectively separated, thereby avoiding significant quantities of viscous and waxy extracted materials remaining in the chamber and valves after the carbon dioxide solvent is warmed and allowed to exit the chamber.

EXTRACTION SYSTEM INCLUDING A MULTI-PORT EXTRACTION VESSEL AND EXTRACTION BASKET

A system for extracting components from sample material includes a multi-port extraction vessel and an extraction basket that is configured to hold the sample material and to be rotated within the multi-port extraction vessel. The extraction vessel may include multiple ingress ports and multiple egress ports to allow a liquid solvent to flow through the extraction vessel during an extraction process. The extraction basket is permeable to allow liquid solvent to flow through the extraction basket and distribute throughout the sample material held within the extraction basket. A rotation mechanism, such as a motor, may rotate the extraction basket within the extraction vessel during the extraction process. The multi-port extraction vessel, in combination with the rotatable extraction basket, promotes even distribution of the liquid solvent throughout the sample material.

A method and a PVB cleaning and/or upgrading system for cleaning and upgrading post-consumer and/or post-industrial polyvinyl butyral is provided. The system includes an extraction station for extraction with liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide. The extraction station comprises a sealable container with means for introducing pressurized liquid carbon dioxide into the container and means for stirring PVB material. The station further includes transfer means for transferring the pressurized liquid carbon dioxide containing extracted plasticizer and/or contaminants from the container to a distillation unit. The distillation unit separates extracted plasticizer and/or contaminants from the carbon dioxide, by evaporation of the liquefied CO2. The system further includes pressurizing means, such as a compressor, for pressurizing and liquefying of the CO2 evaporated in the distillation unit.

A system and method for extracting essential oils from organic material is provided. One embodiment places organic material into an extraction chamber that is a cylindrical wall of rigid material, wherein a diameter and a height of the extraction chamber is sized to define an interior that accommodates a desired amount of an organic material having essential oils; fills the extraction chamber with a solvent after the organic matter has been placed into the extraction chamber; and moves a vortex plunger disposed over the surface of the organic material in a repeated upward and downward motion during an agitation process so that the vortex vanes generate a fluid vortex in the solvent, wherein the fluid vortex causes the solvent to be drawn upward into the organic material and then to be pushed downward through the organic material so that the solvent extracts essential oils from the organic material.
