Filter with exterior and interior media components and method of filtering
The invention features a filtration segment having a top seal, a bottom seal and a primary filter core and the method of filtering with the design of the filtration segment. The primary filter core is operatively coupled to at least one opening which is located either on the top seal or on the bottom seal. The filtration segment also includes one or more interior filters surrounding the primary filter core. Each interior filter includes a filter material surrounding a secondary core which is operatively coupled to at least one opening which is located either on the top seal or on the bottom seal. Each filter may optionally include a retaining medium enclosing the filter material. The filtration segment has one or more layers of an exterior filter media which operatively surround the interior filters and are operatively coupled to the top seal and the bottom seal.

SAND CONTROL SCREEN ASSEMBLIES AND ASSOCIATED METHODS OF MANUFACTURING
A sand control screen assembly includes a base pipe having openings through its thickness, and a mesh layer having mesh material sections coupled to safe edges, or connectors, for connecting sections together. The safe edges include areas of thinning to provide flex joints that yield when exposed to high stresses. The mesh layer may be a drainage layer or a filter medium of the sand control screen assembly.

APPARATUS FOR FILTERING LIQUIDS
The present invention relates to a filtering apparatus (1) for the filtration of liquids, in particular water. It comprises, inside a container (11), a first chamber (50) intended to receive liquid to be filtered, a second chamber (54) intended to receive filtered liquid, a first porous wall (51) and a second porous wall (53) which delimit a filtration chamber (40) between them. The first porous wall (51) divides the first chamber (50) from the filtration chamber (40) and the second porous wall (53) divides the second chamber (54) from the filtration chamber (40), so that the filtration chamber (40) is interposed between the first chamber (50) and the second chamber (54). A granular filter material (4) is housed in the filtration chamber (40) and is enclosed between the first porous wall (51) and the second porous wall (53). The first chamber (50) receives the liquid to be filtered at a first height (H1) which is at a higher altitude than the second height (H2) at which the second chamber (54) discharges the filtered liquid. The first chamber (50), the filtration chamber (40) and the second chamber (54) are flanked to each other and, in a section between the first height (H1) and the second height (H2), are all intersected by a plurality of horizontal planes (P) parallel to each other. In use, the liquid to be filtered passes from the first chamber (50) to the second chamber (54) substantially by gravity and through the filtration chamber (40) with a flow path having a horizontal component.
ENCLOSED MEDIA FLUID FILTRATION DEVICE
A filtration device comprising a media basket, a baseplate, and a canister. The media basket is affixed to the baseplate. The canister has a cavity therein and is detachably coupled with the baseplate to enclose the media basket. The media basket contains a porous filtration material that efficiently removes contaminants from liquid. The device is configured to establish a first siphon to convey liquid from outside the device into the canister cavity through a canister pipe when a liquid level outside the filtration device is higher than the top of the weir in the canister pipe and configured to establish a second siphon to convey liquid from canister cavity through the top of a center riser pipe and out an outlet pipe when the first siphon has been established and the liquid level outside the filtration device is higher than the top of the center riser pipe.

A filtration device comprising a media basket, a baseplate, and a canister. The media basket is affixed to the baseplate. The canister has a cavity therein and is detachably coupled with the baseplate to enclose the media basket. The present invention relates to a system for contaminant extraction in a borehole extending from a surface of the Earth through a water permeable layer and into an underlying production zone, the system comprising: an outer casing located within the borehole and extending through the water permeable layer; a production pipe located within the casing and extending towards the production zone; a filter assembly occupying at least part of an intermediate zone between the outer casing and the production pipe, wherein the filter assembly is configured to capture contaminants before they enter the water permeable layer and/or before they are released into the atmosphere, the filter assembly comprising: a lower solids filtering stage configured to filter solid contaminants; and an upper fluids filtering stage configured to filter fluid contaminants migrating from the production zone through the lower solids filtering stage; and sealing means for preventing the uncontrolled leakage of contaminants from the intermediate zone. Methods for contaminant extraction, a contaminant filtration system and solid and fluid filter modules are also disclosed.
