Membrane CO2 separation process

Described herein are membrane processes for separating CO.sub.2 from flue gas. An exemplary process involves passing a fluid stream including the flue gas across a membrane permeable to CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2O, removing treated gas from a feed side of the membrane that has less CO.sub.2 than the flue gas, and removing permeate from a permeate side of the membrane comprising CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2O. Suitably, the permeate is removed at a sub-atmospheric vacuum pressure. The permeate is then cooled to remove at least some of the H.sub.2O from the permeate and form a smaller volume of H.sub.2O-depleted, CO.sub.2 enriched permeate.

SORBENT COMPOSITIONS HAVING AMORPHOUS HALOGEN SPECIES FOR THE SEQUESTRATION OF CONTAMINANTS

Methods for the manufacture of sorbent compositions, sorbent compositions and methods for using the sorbent compositions. The methods include the utilization of an acidic halogen solution as a source of a halogen species that is dispersed on a solid sorbent. The use of the acidic halogen solution results in a highly active halogen species that demonstrates improved efficacy for the removal of heavy metal(s) from a flue gas. The sorbent composition includes a substantially amorphous halogen species associated with a solid sorbent such as powdered activated carbon (PAC).

A carbon dioxide containing fluid is flowed through a membrane in an open position. The membrane encapsulates an adsorbent bed operating at a first temperature. The adsorbent bed adsorbs at least a portion of the carbon dioxide of the carbon dioxide containing fluid. The membrane is adjusted to a closed position, thereby isolating the adsorbent bed and preventing fluid flow into and out of the membrane. The adsorbent bed is heated to a second temperature, thereby desorbing the carbon dioxide captured from the carbon dioxide containing fluid. The membrane is adjusted to the open position. The adsorbent bed is cooled to the first temperature.

Fumigation System and Method

A method and system for fumigating a material is disclosed. The method includes the steps of containing the material to be fumigated in a containment volume and forming a gas mixture in the containment volume, the gas mixture including at least a fumigation agent and an ambient gas originally present within the containment volume, wherein the partial pressure of the fumigation agent is elevated with respect to the ambient gas in the containment volume. The method further includes then maintaining a concentration of a fumigation agent within the containment volume for a required time to fumigate the material and then removing the fumigation agent from the containment volume.
