Disclosed is method for removing carbonyl sulphide and/or carbon disulphide from a sour gas stream. The method comprises subjecting the gas stream to simultaneous contact with an absorption liquid, such as an aqueous amine solution, and with a catalyst suitable for hydrolyzing carbonyl sulphide and/or carbon disulphide. To this end, the invention also provides a reactor system wherein both an absorption liquid and a catalyst are present. In a preferred embodiment, the catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst present on or in an absorption column, either coated on the trays of a column with trays, or contained in the packing of a packed column.

Removal of sulfur compounds from gas streams via precipitation

Techniques for removing sulfur compounds from a sulfur-containing gas stream can include contacting the gas with an absorption solution comprising a metal cation capable of reacting with the sulfur compound to form a metal sulphide precipitate and/or a metal mercaptide precipitate. In addition, the treatment can include controlling a concentration of the precipitates below a threshold to maintain rheological properties; subjecting the precipitate-enriched solution to vitalization; subjecting the precipitate-enriched solution to regeneration including oxidation; and/or other features to enhance the sulfur removal operations.

Method of processing sulfur-bearing wastes from refineries and upgraders

The methods and systems are disclosed which leverage sulfur abatement resources present at most refineries or other hydrocarbon processing plants, such as natural gas processing plants to capture and treat sulfur-containing byproducts, such as SO.sub.2, generated during the regeneration of spent HDP catalysts. Thus, the disclosed methods and systems allow for converting hazardous waste spent catalyst to a salable product at it source while simultaneously capturing the sulfur oxides removed from the catalyst and converting them to a useful product instead of a resultant waste stream requiring management and/or disposal. Thus, spent sulfur bearing refinery wastes, such as HDP catalyst, can be roasted or regenerated at the refinery site to convert the hazardous sulfur-bearing wastes into one or more salable products.

Reactivated Hydroprocessing Catalysts for Use in Sulfur Abatement

Disclosed herein are methods, systems, and compositions for providing catalysts for tail gas clean up in sulfur recovery operations. Aspects of the disclosure involve obtaining catalyst that was used in a first process, which is not a tailgas treating process and then using the so-obtained catalyst in a tailgas treating process. For example, the catalyst may originally be a hydroprocessing catalyst. A beneficial aspect of the disclosed methods and systems is that the re-use of spent hydroprocessing catalyst reduces hazardous waste generation by operators from spent catalyst disposal. Ultimately, this helps reduce the environmental impact of the catalyst life cycle. The disclosed methods and systems also provide an economically attractive source of high-performance catalyst for tailgas treatment, which benefits the spent catalyst generator, the catalyst provider, and the catalyst consumer.

COST-EFFECTIVE GAS PURIFICATION METHODS AND SYSTEMS BY MEANS OF EJECTORS

The invention provides methods and systems for reducing cost and energy consumption of gas purification processes that use physical or chemical absorbents. These methods and system provide a novel approach to vaporize process energy wastes including thermodynamic inefficiencies and waste heat by optimally integrating ejector technology into gas purification processes. These methods and systems use single-phase and/or two-phase ejectors as alternatives to mechanical compressors or pumps for recirculating fluid between vessels or as part of the cooling system associated to the gas purification processes.
