Fuel filter with additive release device

The fuel filter (1) contains a filter element (4) and an additive tank (13) in a housing (2, 3). The filter element is engaged against the removable cover (3) of the housing and has a filter medium (5) extending in an annular manner around an inner space (9). An additive release device (32) extends into this inner space (9) to distribute liquid additive from the tank (13) into a fuel circulation circuit for an internal combustion engine. The additive selectively flows into a sealed distribution channel (DC) of the device (32) depending on an open or closed configuration of an actuator component (62) associated with the distribution channel. The distribution channel (DC) opens into a fuel channel (52) of the cover (3) that has a larger cross-section than the distribution channel (DC).

The present invention relates to a method for converting a full flow oil and/or fuel filter system into a bypass filter system comprising the use of a retro-fittable bypass filter configured to directly replace the pre-existing full flow filter, without the need for additional hoses or mounts etc. as in existing methods. Also described is a filter device for converting a full flow oil and/or fuel filter system into a bypass filter system comprising: an inlet for allowing fluid into the filter; a plurality of screens for filtering particles from the fluid; a cellulose element for filtering moisture from the fluid; an outlet for allowing fluid out of the filter; and a bypass for fluid to bypass the cellulose element and at least one screen and exit the filter, wherein the bypass filter is configured to directly replace the pre-existing full flow filter.

Fuel filter and cartridge for such a filter with an onboard additive tank

In a filter cartridge (CC) for a fuel filter, the filter element (4) and the additive module are connected and typically stacked so as to allow them to be integrally inserted into a filter housing. The substantially annular filter medium (5) delimits an inner space (9) into which at least one part (24) of the attachment end of the additive module can be engaged. The liquid additive is stored in a casing forming a tank (13) that is placed at a fuel pressure and delimits an internal volume (V2) that can be varied so as to maintain an identical pressure between the liquid additive and the fuel at the periphery (V3) of the tank (13). The additive module has an external connection (28) with a liquid additive outlet pipe (12a), said external connection (28) including sealing means (37, 38) for automatically closing the outlet pipe in a fluidtight manner when the external connection is in a disengaged state.

The invention relates to a fuel filter (1) for cleaning fuel (K) for an internal combustion engine (20), having a main filter (3) and a prefilter (2) which is arranged upstream of the main filter (3), through which fuel (K) can successively flow, wherein the prefilter (2) has for separating water (W) present in the fuel (K) a water separator (4) which comprises a water collection chamber (5) for collecting the separated water (W), wherein the prefilter (2) is connected in fluid terms to the main filter (3) by means of a conveying device (18) which conveys the fuel from the prefilter into the main filter (3), having a suction jet pump (6) which is connected in fluid terms to the water collection chamber (5) in order to discharge water (W) from the water collection chamber (5).

An apparatus and method for filtering a liquid utilize a filter apparatus including a bypass filter, a full flow filter, and a flow balancing element for dividing a total inlet flow of fluid to the filter apparatus into a bypass portion, passing through the bypass filter, and a full flow portion, passing through the full flow filter. The bypass filter has a lower filtering efficiency than the full flow filter element, so that a venturi tube is not required for causing the bypass portion to pass through the bypass filter. The flow balancing element divides the flow into a desired bypass portion and a desired full flow portion, at a predetermined operating temperature. Below the operating temperature, the bypass portion increases and the full flow portion decreases, the bypass portion becoming greater than the full flow portion at a second predetermined temperature below the operating temperature.

Holes in the center tube, adjacent the upper end cap, allow fluid to pass through the center tube towards a separator tube. The separator tube contains a second filter medium that strips water from the fluid into a fluid reservoir below the lower end cap. A radially offset duct defining a fluid passage extends from below the lower end cap to above the upper end cap.
