POLYAMIDE NANOFIBER NONWOVENS

A nanofiber nonwoven product is disclosed which comprises a polyamide with a relative viscosity from 2 to 330, spun into nanofibers with an average diameter of less than 1000 nanometers (1 micron). In general, the inventive products are prepared by: (a) providing a polyamide composition, wherein the polyamide has a relative viscosity from 2 to 330; (b) melt spinning the polyamide composition into a plurality of nanofibers having an average fiber diameter of less than 1 micron, followed by (c) forming the nanofibers into the product.

A three dimensional filter media for extended life filters includes: (a) a filter media base made of fabric selected from the group consisting of synthetic fabric, natural fabric and combinations thereof, the fabric being made of a plurality of threads, each of the plurality of threads being formed by a plurality of joined twisted thread filaments, the fabric being selected from the group consisting of woven fabric, knitted fabric, and combinations thereof, the fabric having a thickness of Z in the range of 0.020 to 0.075 inch, the fabric having a specified density; and, (b) a plurality of mechanical cilia connected to and protruding outwardly and away from the base, the cilia having a length that is at least 10 times Z, Z being the thickness of the base set forth above, and having a density that is no greater than 5% of the density of the base.

Geomaterial web with biological degradation properties

A geomaterial web includes a first organic structural material and a second structural material that is different from the first structural material, which is bonded together with the first structural material to form a sheet-like composite material web extending in two mutually perpendicular directions. The first structural material and the second structural material are organic materials, where the first structural material has a first biodegradability and the second structural material has a second biodegradability that is different from the first biodegradability. The second biodegradability may be less than the first biodegradability.

Filters with mechanical and electrostatic filtering capabilities

Filter media and filters, such as air filters, face masks, gas turbine and compressor air intake filters, panel filters and the like, are provided that capture submicron particles with both electrostatic forces and the utilization of nanoparticles within the filter media. A filtration media includes a substrate comprising fibers and nanoparticles disposed within the substrate. At least one of the fibers or the nanoparticles are electrostatically charged. The electrostatic charge effectively captures submicron particles during at least the initial use of the filter. The nanoparticles ensure that the efficiency of the filter remains high even after the electrostatic charge starts to decay over time. In addition, the bond between the fibers and the nanoparticles may be enhanced by the electrostatic charge, which allows the nanoparticles to be dispersed in depth throughout the filter media.
