Methods and systems for improving the energy efficiency of carbon dioxide capture

A system for carbon dioxide capture from a gas mixture comprises an absorber that receives a lean solvent system stream (containing a chemical solvent, physical-solvent, and water) from the stripper, a stripper that receives the rich solvent stream from the absorber and produces the product carbon dioxide and the lean solvent through the use of a reboiler in fluid communication with a lower portion of the stripper, a condenser in fluid communication with a vapor outlet of the stripper, a cross-exchanger in fluid communication with a rich solvent system outlet from the absorber and a rich solvent system inlet on the stripper, and a splitter. The splitter is configured to separate the rich solvent system stream into a first portion and second portion, where the first portion directly passes to the stripper and the second portion passes through the cross-exchanger prior to passing to the stripper.

Systems and methods for enhancing amine agent recovery with a reclaimer

Reclaimer systems and methods of their use are provided. Reclaimer systems use one or more fluid input streams and a variable steam input to control temperature of a fluid in a reclaimer vessel. In certain embodiments, a temperature controller and level controller are both connected to at least one fluid input stream subsystem and a steam input subsystem. Output from the level controller and the temperature controller is used to control flow through both a fluid input stream subsystem and a steam input subsystem. In certain embodiments, selectors are used to determine which controller output to obey when controlling the steam input subsystem and the fluid input stream subsystem. In certain embodiments, lean amine agent and an inert fluid are input in a ratio controlled by a ratio controller in order to maintain the fluid level in a vessel.

System and method to separate gases using high viscosity liquid sorbents in a spray contactor

A gas separation system has system input inlet configured to receive a stream mixture including a target gas, one or more spray generators positioned to spray a non-sprayable liquid to change a concentration of the target gas in the non-sprayable liquid, one or more system outlets positioned to outlet an output material, wherein at least one of the system outlets outputs a material having a lower amount of the target gas than the input stream mixture, and a recirculating path connected to the one or more outputs and the input inlet to allow recirculation of the non-sprayable liquid. A method of performing gas separation includes absorbing a target gas from an input stream in a non-sprayable capture liquid, and releasing the target gas in an output gas stream by spraying the non-sprayable capture liquid into a heated volume using a spray generator. A method of performing gas separation includes receiving an input stream that includes a target gas, using one or more spray generators to apply a non-sprayable liquid as a spray to the input stream to change a concentration of the target gas in the liquid, and outputting the liquid with the changed concentration through an outlet.

One variation of a method for carbon sequestration includes: mixing ambient air including carbon dioxide and secondary gases with a working fluid to generate a first mixture; conveying the first mixture through a compressor to pressurize the first mixture from a first pressure to a second pressure greater than the first pressure to promote absorption of carbon dioxide into the working fluid; depositing the first mixture in a high-pressure vessel to generate an exhaust stream of secondary gases and a second mixture including carbon dioxide dissolved in the working fluid; conveying the second mixture through a turbine configured to extract energy and reduce pressure of the second mixture, from the second pressure to the first pressure, to promote desorption of carbon dioxide from the working fluid; transferring the second mixture into the low-pressure vessel; and releasing carbon dioxide, desorbed from the working fluid, from the low-pressure vessel for collection.

Hydrogen sulfide removal process

A process is presented to treat a process gas stream containing hydrogen sulfide using a reverse jet absorber with a liquid treatment solution containing a chelated metal catalyst. A treat gas substantially free of the hydrogen sulfide is separated from a spent liquid treatment solution containing elemental sulfur which can then be regenerated in an oxidation vessel where it is contacted with an oxygen containing gas to convert the spent liquid treatment solution to a regenerated liquid treatment solution that can be recycled for introduction into the reverse jet absorber.
