Method of preparing perm-selective porous membrane and method of separating gases using porous membrane prepared thereby
The present invention relates to a method of preparing a perm-selective porous membrane and a method of separating gases using the prepared porous membrane. According to the present invention, a membrane is synthesized using a hierarchically structured alumina porous support by a counter diffusion method. During this synthesis, the diffusion rate of metal ions loaded on the porous support is controlled by controlling the pore size of the porous support, and the position at which the membrane is synthesized is controlled by synthesizing the membrane inside the support. This can increase the physical stability of the membrane and make the membrane thicker so as to ensure higher H.sub.2/CO.sub.2 separation factors.
Methods for creating fluidic cavities by transmembrane etching through porous membranes and structures made thereby and uses of such structures
Provided are monolithic structures comprising one or more suspended, nanoporous membranes that are in contact with one or more fluidic cavities, methods of making same, and exemplary uses of same. The monolithic structures can be formed using a transmembrane etch. The monolithic structures can be used, as examples, as filters and filtration modules in microfluidic devices, dialysis devices, and concentration devices in laboratory, industrial, and medical processes.

Nanoporous graphene membranes
An article having a nanoporous membrane and a nanoporous graphene sheet layered on the nanoporous membrane. A method of: depositing a layer of a diblock copolymer onto a graphene sheet, and etching a minor phase of the diblock copolymer and a portion of the graphene in contact with the minor phase to form a nanoporous article having a nanoporous graphene sheet and a nanoporous layer of a polymer. A method of: depositing a hexaiodo-substituted macrocycle onto a substrate having a Ag(111) surface; coupling the macrocycle to form a nanoporous graphene sheet; layering the graphene sheet and substrate onto a nanoporous membrane with the graphene sheet in contact with the nanoporous membrane; and etching away the substrate.
PROCESS FOR SEPARATION OF PROPYLENE FROM A LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS STREAM
Process for separating a highly pure propylene product from a liquefied petroleum gas stream is disclosed, which eliminates a C3 splitter having over 120 trays and the additional equipment that a C3 splitter requires. The process includes passing a feed stream to a dividing wall column to produce an overhead stream, a first side draw stream, a second side draw stream, and a product stream. The first side draw stream is passed to a treatment unit to produce a treated stream. The treated stream is passed to a membrane unit and a permeate stream is passed from the membrane unit to produce a polymer grade propylene stream.
ASYMMETRIC MULTIBLOCK COPOLYMER-HOMOPOLYMER FILMS, METHODS OF MAKING SAME, AND USES THEREOF
Asymmetric films, methods of making asymmetric films, and uses of asymmetric films. A method may include using at least two different solvents and at least one homopolymer and at least one block copolymer that can undergo self assembly, where the solvents are immiscible and have different surface tension, where, on film formation, all or substantially all of the block copolymer(s) migrate to an exterior surface of the homopolymer. The asymmetric films may include an isoporous region or layer and an asymmetric region or layer, where the asymmetric region does not include 10 percent by weight or more of the multiblock copolymer(s) and/or the isoporous region/layer and the asymmetric pore region/layer are not independently (or separately) formed and/or not laminated together to form the asymmetric film. The films can be used in devices, such as, for example, filtration devices.
FILTRATION MEMBRANE FROM A BLEND COMPRISING POLYSULFONE AND POLYOXAZOLINE AND METHOD MAKING THEREOF
An asymmetric membrane. The asymmetric membrane includes a membrane wall with a first and a second porous surface and an interior situated between the surfaces; a first asymmetrical region towards the first surface; a second asymmetrical region towards the second surface; wherein the asymmetric membrane is made from a polymeric blend comprising an aromatic sulfone polymer and poly (2-oxazoline); and wherein the asymmetric membrane is in the form of a flat sheet.
