A zeolite membrane structure includes a porous support, and a zeolite membrane. The zeolite membrane has a first zeolite layer located in a surface of the porous support, and a second zeolite layer located outside of the surface of the porous support and integrally formed with the first zeolite layer. The porous support has an outermost layer in which the first zeolite layer is located. An average thickness of the first zeolite layer is less than or equal to 5.4 micrometers. An average pore diameter of the outermost layer is greater than or equal to 0.050 micrometers and less than or equal to 0.150 micrometers.

Each sample deposition region includes a separation membrane for separating the liquid biological specimen into two different fractions. The first fraction is trapped by the separation membrane while the second fraction passes through the separation membrane and into a respective collection membrane. The separation and collection membranes are easily separable from the devices and can be utilized for further processing and analysis.

The membrane includes a polymeric porous hollow fiber substrate and a coating disposed on a surface of the polymeric porous hollow fiber substrate, where the coating comprises graphene oxide and an amine. A method of forming a coated polymeric hollow fiber support for the capture of carbon dioxide is also provided. The method includes dispersing graphene oxide in a coating solution comprising a solvent; dispersing an amine in the coating solution; and exposing a polymeric hollow fiber support to the coating solution to form a coating on a surface of the polymeric hollow fiber support, wherein the coated polymeric hollow fiber support has a carbon dioxide/nitrogen selectivity ranging from about 200 to about 2000 and a carbon dioxide permeance ranging from about 100 gas permeation units to about 1000 gas permeation units.

MULTI-LAYERED MEMBRANE FOR OIL/WATER SEPARATION

The multi-layered membrane (100) for separating oil and water includes a porous top layer (110), a porous bottom layer (130), and a particulate middle layer (120) positioned between the top layer (110) and the bottom layer (130), the middle layer (120) being hydrophobic and adapted for adsorbing oil, such as trace amounts of oil, that may pass through the top layer (110). The top layer (110) and the bottom layer (130) are hydrophilic and oleophobic. While the membrane (100) does not require any external pressure other than the gravitational forces exerted on the oil/water mixture W to drive the filtration of the oil/water mixture W through the membrane (100), the filtration can be driven by a vacuum or other type of external pressure.
