Method and apparatus for adapting applications over multiple devices
A method and apparatus that incorporate teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, presenting at a display of a computer device a first graphical user interface depicting a game space of a gaming application, receiving a detected stimulation from a mobile communication device associated with a second graphical user interface depicting a virtual peripheral controller for capturing control information for controlling the gaming application, detecting a request to swap between the computer device and mobile communication device presentation of the first graphical user interface depicting the game space and the second graphical user interface depicting the virtual peripheral controller, and presenting at the display of the computer device an adaptation of the second graphical user interface depicting the virtual peripheral controller responsive to the detected request to swap. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

A non-limiting example information processing apparatus includes an operating device including an analog stick that also functions as a depressible push button. Processing circuitry of the apparatus is configured to receive inclination information indicative of an inclination of a stick portion of the analog stick; use the received inclination information as an input for a first information processing operation; receive depression information indicative of a depressing of the stick portion of the analog stick; use the received depression information as an input for a second information processing operation different from the first information processing operation; and invalidate received depression information when inclination information indicative of inclination greater than a predetermined inclination is currently received.

A controller for interfacing wirelessly with a computing device is provided, including the following: a housing defined by a main body, a first extension extending from a first end of the main body, and a second extension extending from a second end of the main body, the first extension and the second extension for holding by a first hand and a second hand of a user, respectively; a touchscreen defined along the top surface of the main body between the first extension and the second extension; a first set of buttons disposed on the top surface of the main body proximate to the first extension and on a first side of the touchscreen; and a second set of buttons disposed on the top surface of the main body proximate to the second extension and on a second side of the touchscreen.
PROXIMITY SENSOR-BASED INTERACTIONS
An application programming interface is provided that allows applications to request and receive distance measurements from multiple proximity sensors arranged on a computing device such as a smart phone or tablet. Users can input ranges of values to the applications by moving objects such as hands and fingers towards and away one or more of the multiple proximity sensors. Applications can use the ranges of values provided by the proximity sensors to allow for more nuanced and precise user interfaces than what is typically available using the binary output associated with a capacitive display. The values provided by the proximity sensors can be combined with values from one or more other sensors such as accelerometers to provide additional user interface options.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM, DISTRIBUTION METHOD, AND DISTRIBUTION DEVICE
A distribution system is provided, the distribution system including a mobile communication terminal for detecting a gesture of a user by using a gesture detection device that is wirelessly connected, and a distribution device that can communicate with the mobile communication terminal, the distribution system including an accepting unit configured to accept registration of first acceleration data expressing a variation in acceleration within a predetermined time, and advertisement data indicating an advertisement to be displayed on the mobile communication terminal; a distributing unit configured to distribute the first acceleration data and the advertisement data to the mobile communication terminal; a comparing unit configured to compare the distributed first acceleration data with second acceleration data expressing the gesture of the user sent from the gesture detection device; and a first outputting unit configured to output the advertisement data, when the comparing unit makes the comparison.

Proximity sensor-based interactions

Server based interactive video game with toys
A video game system comprising a console (such as a game console, computer, mobile device or web site), a peripheral for a gaming platform, and a toy. The gaming platform is capable of identifying the toy and a character corresponding to the toy is depicted in the video game. The video game character corresponding to the toy has certain characteristics and/or attributes. The data for these characteristics and attributes is stored on a server accessible to each compatible gaming platform. As the user uses the character to play the video game, thereby altering the character's characteristics and attributes, the updated attributes are stored by the game system to the server connected to the game system. Updated character data is thereafter available to the user for subsequent game play via any gaming platform connected to the server.
