A system and a method is disclosed for adjusting and/or optimizing a fermentation process performed in one U-loop fermenter, the system including a processor and database for repetitively providing a test value of a fermenter parameter and for repetitively entering the test value of the parameter in the database wherein the database stores multiple test value entries at various points in time and also stores multiple control value entries at various points in time, wherein the processor performs a mathematical analysis of the test value for providing a calculated test value, and/or the control value for providing at least one calculated control value; and selects, on the basis of the calculated test value and/or on the calculated control value, an adjustment to be introduced into at least one other U-loop fermenter to benefit from the change made in the one U-loop fermenter.
Propylene-Based Impact Copolymers and Process and Apparatus for Production
A process of polymerizing olefins comprising combining propylene with a polymerization catalyst, hydrogen, and at least one external electron donor, such as at least one amino-silane donor, to form polypropylene in a first polymerization medium under solution or slurry conditions at or below the bubble point; removing hydrogen from the first polymerization medium and providing a first olefin/polyolefin separation step to form a second polymerization medium; transferring the second polymerization medium to a gas phase reactor and further combining with ethylene; obtaining a propylene-based impact copolymer. The propylene-based impact copolymer desirably has a melt flow rate of at least 60 g/10 min and is useful in automotive components.
Use of turbidimeter for measurement of solid catalyst system component in a reactor feed
A method of monitoring a solid component of a reactor feed stream in a polymer production system, comprising (a) measuring a turbidity of the reactor feed stream, wherein the reactor feed stream comprises a solid component of a polymerization catalyst system, and (b) translating the turbidity of the reactor feed stream into a concentration of the solid component in the reactor feed stream. A method of monitoring a solid component of a reactor feed stream in a polymer production system, comprising (a) measuring a turbidity of a precontactor feed stream, wherein the precontactor feed stream comprises a solid component of a polymerization catalyst system, and (b) translating the turbidity of the precontactor feed stream into a concentration of the solid component in a precontactor effluent stream, wherein the precontactor effluent stream comprises the reactor feed stream.

POLYMERIZATION REACTOR SYSTEM COMPRISING AT LEAST ONE WITHDRAWAL VALVE
Described herein is a polymerization reactor system comprising at least one loop reactor and/or at least one transfer line, and further comprising at least one withdrawal valve, wherein the at least one withdrawal valve is mounted to a wall of a lower horizontal segment of the loop reactor and/or to a wall of the transfer line, at an angle of more than 0 and equal to or less than 85, determined from perpendicular to a tangent of the wall at the mounting position in flow direction of a slurry in the loop reactor and/or in the transfer line. The valve piston of the at least one withdrawal valve comprises a valve plate at an end directed to the at least one loop reactor and/or at an end directed to the at least one transfer line, the valve plate being shaped according to an inner wall of the at least one loop reactor and/or according to an inner wall of the at least one transfer line such that the valve piston is flush with the inner wall of the at least one loop reactor and/or with the inner wall of the at least one transfer line in a closed position of the withdrawal valve. By using such a withdrawal valve, a limitation of the effective withdrawal area can be avoided or at least be reduced such that the liquid slurry can efficiently be withdrawn and the risk of plugging is reduced. Further disclosed is a method for producing an olefin polymer in the inventive polymerization reactor system.

A process for polymerising alpha-olefin monomers in a loop reactor comprising the steps of introducing a main feed stream (2) comprising at least one alpha-olefin monomer into the loop reactor (1); introducing a polymerisation catalyst into the loop reactor (1); polymerising the at least one alpha-olefin monomer in the presence of the polymerisation catalyst in the loop reactor (1) to produce a slurry comprising polyolefin particles; withdrawing an outlet stream (4) comprising at least a portion of the slurry from the loop reactor (1); adding a first feed stream (9) comprising the at least one alpha-olefin monomer and/or hydrogen to the outlet stream (4) to form a concentrator inlet stream (8); introducing the concentrator inlet stream (8) into a concentrator (5); withdrawing from the concentrator (5) an overflow stream (6) comprising the polyolefin particles, wherein the concentration of the polyolefin particles in the overflow stream (6) is smaller than in the concentrator inlet stream (8); withdrawing from the concentrator (5) a bottom outlet stream (12) comprising the polyolefin particles, wherein the concentration of the polyolefin particles in the bottom outlet stream (12) is greater than in the concentrator inlet stream (8); returning the overflow stream (6) into the loop reactor (1) in an area different from that from which the outlet stream (4) is withdrawn.
