A dehydrochlorination process is disclosed. The process involves contacting R.sub.fCHClCH.sub.2Cl with a chromium oxyfluoride catalyst in a reaction zone to produce a product mixture comprising R.sub.fCCl═CH.sub.2, wherein R.sub.f is a perfluorinated alkyl group.

Also disclosed are methods for preparing fluorided solid oxides by contacting an acidic fluorine-containing compound with a solid oxide to produce a mixture, followed by contacting the mixture with a inorganic base to produce the fluorided solid oxide at a pH of at least about 4. The fluorided solid oxide can be used as an activator component in a catalyst system for the polymerization of olefins.

A catalyst comprising chromia and at least one additional metal or compound thereof and wherein the catalyst has a total pore volume of greater than 0.3 cm.sup.3/g and the mean pore diameter is greater than or equal to 90 Å, wherein the total pore volume is measured by N2 adsorption porosimetry and the mean pore diameter is measured by N.sub.2 BET adsorption porosimetry, and wherein the at least one additional metal is selected from Li, Na, K, Ca, Mg, Cs, Sc, Al, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Re, Fe, Ru, Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, In, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, La, Ce and mixtures thereof.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING BROMINE PENTAFLUORIDE
There is provided a method for producing high-purity bromine pentafluoride while leaving a less amount of an unreacted fluorine gas. The method for producing bromine pentafluoride includes a reaction step of feeding a bromine-containing compound, which is at least one of a bromine gas and bromine trifluoride, and a fluorine gas to a reactor to give a (fluorine atom):(bromine atom) molar ratio, that is, F/Br of 3.0 or more and 4.7 or less and reacting the bromine-containing compound and the fluorine gas to each other to obtain a reaction mixture containing bromine pentafluoride and bromine trifluoride; and a separation step of separating bromine pentafluoride and bromine trifluoride in the reaction mixture from each other.
