A method for calcination includes providing a heated coarse solid particle stream with a carbon dioxide rich sorbent to a reactor having a rotatable container.
Dual Bed Pyrolysis System and Method
A dual bed pyrolysis system may include a falling bed reactor employing a heat carrier particulate to pyrolyze biomass to create a pyrolysis product and a pyrolysis waste product. The dual bed pyrolysis system may also include a fluidized bed reactor. The fluidized bed reactor may accept the pyrolysis waste product including char and heat carrier particulate from the falling bed reactor. The fluidized bed reactor may combust the char in the presence of the heat carrier particulate. The fluidized bed reactor may combust the char to reheat the heat carrier particulate. The reheated heat carrier particulate may be provided to the falling bed reactor to pyrolyze biomass to create a pyrolysis product and a pyrolysis waste product.
Method for producing carbonates
In an embodiment, a method of producing a carbonate comprises reacting carbon monoxide and chlorine in a phosgene reactor in the presence of a catalyst to produce a first product comprising phosgene; wherein carbon tetrachloride is present in the first product in an amount of 0 to 10 ppm by volume based on the total volume of phosgene; and reacting a monohydroxy compound with the phosgene to produce the carbonate; wherein the phosgene reactor comprises a tube, a shell, and a space located between the tube and the shell; wherein the tube comprises one or more of a mini-tube section and a second tube section; a first concentric tube concentrically located in the shell; a twisted tube; an internal scaffold; and an external scaffold.
Heterogeneous catalyst and catalyst system for producing 1,2-dichloroethane
To provide a heterogeneous catalyst that exhibits high activity and high selectivity, specifically a catalyst suitable for oxychlorination to produce 1,2-dichloroethane from ethylene, and a catalyst system. Provided are: a heterogeneous catalyst supported on a porous carrier, characterized in that the integral value of the hysteresis occurring between an adsorption isotherm and a desorption isotherm by a gas adsorption method, is at most 19% to the total integral value of the adsorption isotherm; and a catalyst system for producing 1,2-dichloroethane, which comprises this catalyst and a diluent having a spherical shape, circular cylindrical shape or hollow cylindrical shape.
Beta-Mercaptoethanol Synthesis
A process includes reacting, in a reactor having a fixed bed containing a solid catalyst which contains a heterogeneous ion exchange resin, hydrogen sulfide and ethylene oxide in the presence of the solid catalyst to yield a reaction product which contains beta-mercaptoethanol. A reactor system includes the reactor, an ethylene oxide stream, a hydrogen sulfide stream, a fixed bed containing the solid catalyst placed in the reactor, and an effluent stream containing the reaction product. During steady state operation of the reactor in the process and the reactor system, the hydrogen sulfide and the ethylene oxide are present in a mole ratio in a range of about 9:1 to about 20:1.
CORE SHELL CATALYST AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
The present invention relates to a method for the manufacture of a core-shell catalyst comprising the steps of a. providing core particles, b. functionalizing at least part of the surface of the core particles with a functionalizing agent thereby forming functionalized core particles, c. graft polymerizing at least one of aromatic vinyl compounds onto the functionalized core particles thereby forming core-shell particles wherein the core is comprised of the core particles and the shell is comprised of graft polymerized aromatic vinyl compounds and d. activating the shell by using a sulfonating agent wherein the core particles comprise or consists of glass particles and wherein the core particles are hydroxylated prior to step b). The present invention further relates to the use of the core-shell catalyst for the manufacture of bisphenol A by reacting phenol with acetone for increasing the selectivity towards the formation of p,p-bisphenol A.
METHOD FOR CARRYING OUT A CHEMICAL REACTION IN AN UPFLOW REACTOR
The present invention relates to a method for carrying out a catalysed chemical reaction using one or more liquid reactants, preferably acetone and phenol to form bisphenol A, in an upflow reactor comprising feeding at least a portion of said reactants to a bottom section of the reactor positioned below a flow distributor plate, passing said portion through the flow distributor plate, passing said portion through a layer of inert particles positioned above and preferably in contact with said flow distributor plate, passing said portion through a catalyst layer comprising a particulate catalyst, said catalyst layer being positioned above and in contact with said layer of inert particles, wherein the reactants react to form a product stream, collecting said product stream via collecting means positioned above said catalyst layer. The invention also relates to a reactor assembly. The catalyst is a core-shell catalyst which is manufactured by graft polymerizing aromatic vinyl compounds onto the hydroxylated and functionalized core particles, followed by sulfonation.
