The presently disclosed subject matter relates to a horizontal reactor system that can be used for processing various plant material biomass to produce fermentable carbohydrates, paper and pulp products, or both. Particularly, the disclosed system comprises a horizontal reactor vessel comprising a body with first and second ends. The reaction vessel is intended to encompass and retain a reaction medium (i.e., biomass slurry) that is to undergo a biological and/or biochemical reaction. The vessel comprises an internal agitator that functions to mix the contents of the reactor. The agitator is powered by a drive, which can be a motor, positioned outside the reaction vessel.

OLIGOMERISER WITH AN IMPROVED FEED SYSTEM

In an embodiment, a reactor for carrying out a melt transesterification reaction at a reactor temperature of 160 to 300 C. and a reactor pressure of 5 to 200 mbar, comprises a cylindrical tank comprising a top, a side, and a bottom, wherein the bottom is convex, extending away from the top; a stirring shaft disposed within the cylindrical tank along an axis thereof so that it is rotatable from outside of the cylindrical tank; a stirring blade extending from the stirring shaft in the cylindrical tank; a reactant solution inlet located on the bottom; and a reaction solution outlet located on the bottom. The reactor can be used for the polymerization of a polycarbonate oligomer.

The reactor can be used for the polymerization of a polycarbonate oligomer.

HYDROFORMYLATION REACTION PROCESS

In one aspect, a hydroformylation reaction process comprises contacting an olefin, hydrogen, and CO in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst in a cylindrical reactor to provide a reaction fluid, wherein the reactor has a fixed height, and wherein a total mixing energy of at least 0.5 kW/m3 is delivered to the fluid in the reactor; removing a portion of the reaction fluid from the reactor; and returning at least a portion of the removed reaction fluid to the reactor, wherein the returning reaction fluid is introduced in at least two return locations positioned at a height that is less than 80% of the fixed height, wherein the at least two return locations are positioned above a location in the reactor where hydrogen and carbon monoxide are introduced to the reactor, and wherein at least 15% of the mixing energy is provided by the returning reaction fluid.
