Vertical wind tunnel skydiving simulator

A vertical wind tunnel skydiving simulator including a flight chamber entrance that has a curved air deflector that extends into a waiting chamber, in which a convex surface of the curved air deflector faces across or towards the flight chamber entrance or into the flight chamber, and extends into the waiting chamber a sufficient distance to substantially reduce the flow of turbulent air into the waiting chamber. The curved surface is at the top of the entrance and can also be at the sides. The shape the curved surface takes is sufficient to minimize the flow of turbulent air into the waiting chamber; the effect is to make it more comfortable and less noisy for people in the waiting area. This also helps to preserves the laminar, non-turbulent flow of air in the flying chamber, even across the flight chamber entrance. This makes flying more comfortable and predictable.

An altitude display device is provided for use when skydiving. The altitude display device may include an altimeter operative to determine an altitude of the altimeter and to generate an altitude signal representative of the determined altitude. The altitude display device may additionally include a visual display in operative communication with the altimeter to receive the altitude signal, with the visual display emitting a visual display signal at a rate that is imperceptible to a human user, and having a color representative of the altitude signal. The visual display signal may be variable in color within a prescribed color range associated with a prescribed altitude range, such that a change in altitude within the prescribed altitude range, as determined by the altimeter, correlates to a change in color of the visual display signal emitted by the visual display within the prescribed color range.

A coiled coil geometry of modular concave LED/OLED panels or tiles can effectively display a simulated barreling wave. The structure of the coiled coil LED/OLED modules allows one or more users/participants to stand on and/or sit in a motion or non-motion seating platform to observe the simulation.

Recirculating vertical wind tunnel

A vertical wind tunnel for indoor skydiving having at least one recirculating airflow plenum. The airflow plenum includes a first vertical member housing a flight chamber, a top horizontal member, a second vertical member, and a bottom horizontal member. The bottom horizontal member has a first section and a second section. A corner section connects the second section of the bottom horizontal member with the first vertical member. The second section of the bottom horizontal member contracts the airflow travelling through the bottom horizontal member between the first section and its exit to the corner section. The corner section further contracts the airflow exiting the second section of the bottom horizontal member towards the first vertical member.

Skydiving Tracker: An Integrated System for Flight Data Collection and Virtual Reality Simulators for Improving Skydiving Safety

This integrated skydiving safety/training system combines sensors, hardware and software technologies to improve skydiving for individuals and teams of 12 or more military or civilian skydivers. It dramatically improves skydivers' training and helps prevent the leading causes of skydiving deaths, including mid-air collisions and dangerous landings. The system offers innovative error-correction on low-cost trackers to collect flight data to improve debriefings after jumps for planeloads of jumpers and create an expert proprietary flight database with hundreds of jumps. This can be used for debriefings/accident investigations which can be done in minutes, where before it took months to analyze accidents. It plots this data into 3D Interactive Maps and the real-time radio version can track teams in the air or on the ground, and museums can use the interactive mapping option to display stunning tours of the earth and moon.

Object movement control apparatus and method

Described herein is an apparatus and method to convey an object through the air in a controlled and repeatable manner. The apparatus may comprise an object attached to at least one resilient member, the resilient member or members constraining object movement in a substantially vertical y-axis direction. The apparatus may also comprise at least one support member coupled to the at least one resilient member, and the support member or members constrain object movement in a substantially horizontal x-axis direction. In use, the resilient member is energized, movement initiated, and object movement then occurs in both an x-axis and y-axis direction, the movement path substantially governed by the resilient member(s) and the support member(s). The apparatus and method may allow the object to experience a variety of movement sensations, one being the feeling of flight or gliding.

Augmented situational awareness hub

A sensor hub for collecting sensor data during a parachuting or wing-suite event is described herein. In some instances, the sensor hub may include a sensor hub housing, the sensor hub housing including a first cavity that houses a power supply and a communication unit and a second cavity that houses a location sensor and an orientation sensor, wherein the communication unit is configured to share the location sensor and the orientation sensor with a second sensor hub and a helmet that attaches to the sensor hub housing.
